Job Description:

Scrum Master III

Technology Operations and Engineering, Digital Business Operations

Who We Are

At Upbound Group, we are committed to elevating financial opportunity for all through innovative, inclusive, and technology-driven financial solutions that address the evolving needs and aspirations of consumers. Our Digital Technology organization partners closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, Innovation, and Growth teams to deliver scalable, high-quality technology solutions aligned to enterprise priorities.

Role Summary

The Senior Scrum Master is an experienced Agile leader responsible for driving delivery excellence and enabling healthy, high-performing teams across complex, high-visibility initiatives. This role goes beyond delivery coordination and ceremony facilitation, serving as a trusted advisor, coach, mentor, and organizational partner to Product, Engineering, PMO, and leadership teams.

The Senior Scrum Master provides delivery leadership, coaching, and organizational guidance that improves execution, predictability, team effectiveness, and business outcomes. This role helps teams and leaders strengthen collaboration, improve flow, navigate complexity, and continuously evolve how they work while maintaining disciplined delivery practices. The Senior Scrum Master is expected to mentor Scrum Masters, influence Agile maturity across the organization, and create the conditions for teams to deliver value in ways that are both effective, predictable, and adaptable.

How We Practice Agile

We believe Agile is not a one-size-fits-all framework. While we operate within a scaled enterprise environment, we emphasize adaptability over rigid adherence to any single methodology.

Our teams are encouraged to:
  • Apply Agile principles in ways that best fit their context

  • Continuously inspect and adapt how they work

  • Balance structure with pragmatism to drive outcomes

We value practitioners who:
  • Meet teams where they are and evolve practices incrementally

  • Bring ideas from outside experiences and challenge the status quo

  • Contribute to shaping how Agile is practiced across the organization, not just executing it

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Agile Leadership
  • Lead Agile enablement and delivery execution across multiple complex teams and strategic initiatives, ensuring teams deliver value effectively while continuously improving how they work.

  • Coach teams, Product Owners, and leaders on Agile principles, organizational effectiveness, team dynamics, and sustainable delivery practices.

  • Drive Agile maturity and continuous improvement initiatives by applying Agile frameworks, principles, and practical experience in ways that best support team and organizational outcomes.

  • Help teams improve flow, focus, collaboration, predictability, and delivery performance while balancing discipline with adaptability.

  • Foster a culture of psychological safety, accountability, learning, transparency, and continuous improvement across teams and stakeholder groups.

  • Influence and evolve Agile practices across the organization, serving as a mentor to Scrum Masters and a trusted advisor to leadership on Agile ways of working.

Delivery Excellence

  • Support teams and leaders in navigating complex dependencies, delivery risks, organizational challenges, and cross-functional coordination to improve execution and business outcomes.

  • Facilitate quarterly planning, large-scale coordination efforts, and strategic alignment discussions that improve clarity, decision-making, and delivery predictability while minimizing unnecessary process overhead.

  • Leverage delivery metrics and team health indicators to identify trends, bottlenecks, systemic impediments, and opportunities for continuous improvement, using data to drive learning and performance rather than simply reporting status.

  • Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate complex delivery challenges, translating risks, constraints, and tradeoffs into clear business impacts and actionable recommendations for stakeholders.

  • Establish and drive delivery performance improvement initiatives that enhance flow, predictability, collaboration, team effectiveness, and overall delivery outcomes across teams and programs.

Agile Coaching & Mentorship

  • Mentor Junior and mid-level Scrum Masters in facilitation, coaching, stakeholder engagement, delivery leadership, and adaptive Agile practices.

  • Support the onboarding, development, and ongoing growth of Scrum Masters by sharing practical experience, proven techniques, and real-world lessons learned.

  • Provide guidance on facilitation, conflict resolution, stakeholder management, team dynamics, and delivery excellence to improve individual and team effectiveness.

  • Introduce innovative ideas, industry best practices, and diverse Agile approaches to strengthen team performance, organizational effectiveness, and delivery outcomes.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and professional development, encouraging collaboration and recognizing that valuable ideas can originate from any level of the organization.

Transformation & Organizational Impact
  • Partner with leadership to evolve Agile ways of working across teams and organizations, driving improvements that enhance delivery effectiveness, collaboration, and business outcomes.

  • Influence Agile standards, practices, and operating models by balancing Agile principles, organizational needs, and practical experience rather than enforcing rigid framework compliance.

  • Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives that reduce organizational friction, strengthen collaboration, and improve execution across teams and stakeholder groups.

  • Guide teams and leaders in continuously inspecting and adapting how Agile is applied, recognizing that different teams, products, and environments may require different approaches to achieve optimal results.

  • Serve as a catalyst for Agile maturity and organizational transformation by promoting outcome-driven practices, adaptability, continuous learning, and team effectiveness.

Capacity & Delivery Awareness
  • Help teams and leaders align commitments with realistic capacity and sustainable delivery expectations

  • Support healthy planning conversations that balance demand, focus, and team constraints

  • Maintain awareness of how delivery commitments, tradeoffs, and risks affect execution and broader business outcomes

  • Support estimation practices that align work commitments with team capacity.

  • Collaborate with leadership on capacity and demand planning.

  • Maintain awareness of how delivery commitments impact financial planning and reporting

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM, PSM, or equivalent)

  • Agile Coaching Certification (ICP-ACC, CSP, Certified Team Coach, SAFe Practice Consultant, or equivalent)

  • 8-10 years of experience in Agile delivery, Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or technology delivery leadership roles

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring Scrum Masters and coaching teams

  • Strong understanding of scaled Agile environments

  • Advanced facilitation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills

  • Experience leading enterprise Agile transformation initiatives preferred

  • Strong executive communication and organizational influence skills

  • Demonstrated ability to guide teams and leaders through ambiguity, change, and continuous improvement
