Script Engineer information

What is a Script Engineer?

A Script Engineer is a professional responsible for writing, maintaining, and optimizing scripts that automate tasks, processes, or workflows within software systems. They often work with scripting languages like Python, Bash, PowerShell, or JavaScript to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and support software development or IT operations. Script Engineers may also troubleshoot scripts, integrate them with other tools, and ensure they follow best coding practices.

How does a Script Engineer typically collaborate with development and operations teams on automation projects?

Script Engineers regularly work alongside software developers and IT operations teams to design, implement, and maintain automation scripts that streamline workflows and system processes. Collaboration often involves gathering requirements, understanding system architectures, and troubleshooting issues together to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as Script Engineers frequently participate in code reviews, cross-functional meetings, and documentation efforts to keep all stakeholders informed and projects on track.

What is the difference between Script Engineer vs Game Developer?

AspectScript EngineerGame Developer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Computer Science, Programming SkillsBachelor's in Computer Science, Programming Skills, sometimes specialized in game design
Work EnvironmentGame studios, software companies, often collaborative teamsGame studios, independent developers, software companies
Industry UsageUsed mainly in gaming, interactive media projectsUsed broadly in gaming, including design, programming, and production
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

While both Script Engineers and Game Developers work within the gaming industry, Script Engineers focus primarily on scripting and implementing game logic, often specializing in scripting languages and tools. Game Developers have a broader role that includes designing, programming, and sometimes managing entire game projects. The roles overlap in skills and work environment, but Script Engineers typically concentrate on scripting tasks within the development process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Script Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Script Engineer, you need strong programming skills, typically in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell, along with a solid understanding of software development principles. Familiarity with automation tools, version control systems like Git, and continuous integration platforms is commonly required. Problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help Script Engineers collaborate and deliver reliable automation solutions. These skills are essential for improving efficiency, reducing manual errors, and supporting seamless software development and deployment processes.

Job description

Join the NetJets Team
NetJets, the global private aviation leader for more than 60 years, provides the pinnacle of private travel, defined by a signature commitment to unwavering safety, personalized service, and reliable global access. Discover why NetJets is the ultimate career destination, offering exceptional benefits and growth opportunities.
Purpose of Position
The Cybersecurity Engineer is a hands-on technical role within the NetJets Cybersecurity Services team, focused on building, coding, integrating, and operating security solutions. This role requires strong software engineering skills, deep technical expertise, and the ability to work hands-on-keyboard to design, develop, automate, and maintain security capabilities across the enterprise.
This position is intended for engineers and developers, not program or project managers. The successful candidate will write code, develop tools, integrate APIs, automate security workflows, analyze large datasets, and build scalable security solutions. This role has a specific focus on data security engineering, including data classification and labeling, encryption, and protection of sensitive data across on-prem and cloud environments. The Cybersecurity Engineer builds, automates, scripts, engineers, and integrates solutions that enforce data security controls and enable scalable, data-driven protection. The Cybersecurity Engineer partners closely with Security Incident Response, Cyber Threat Intelligence, and Cybersecurity Architecture teams to engineer practical, code-driven solutions that measurably improve the company's security posture.
Tasks and Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain software-based security solutions by building, scripting, automating, and integrating tools that support detection, response, compliance, and data protection.
• Write and maintain production-quality code (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Java, Go, C#, JavaScript) to automate security operations, data analysis, integrations, and reporting.
• Build, automate, and integrate data security controls, including data discovery, data classification, data labeling, encryption, and secure handling of sensitive data across endpoints, email, SaaS, and cloud platforms.
• Engineer and integrate security platforms and tooling using APIs, webhooks, SDKs, and cloud-native services, including the development of custom tooling, dashboards, parsers, and workflows.
• Analyze security and data security telemetry at scale by engineering scripted and programmatic approaches to process large datasets and reduce manual analysis.
• Automate enforcement, validation, and tuning of security controls, including encryption, access restrictions, and policy-driven protection of sensitive data.
• Research, prototype, and implement new security and data security technologies with an emphasis on technical feasibility, scalability, and engineering-driven solutions.
• Provide deep technical incident response support, including forensic analysis, custom scripting, and tool development during security investigations.
• Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to embed secure-by-design and data-by-default protection principles into applications, services, and infrastructure, while staying current on modern attack techniques and translating that knowledge into code and tooling.
Note:
It is not possible to list all required job duties on this form. There may be other important duties assigned, depending on the position. For a list of essential job functions, please refer to the essential functions document for this job.
