Job description

IND Forklift Operator

The IND Forklift Operator is responsible for moving and handling materials within the manufacturing facility by following the work instructions pertaining to the following essential functions and processes. This position is responsible for responding when paged by operators to assist in production needs. The IND Forklift Operator is responsible for labeling hazardous waste and scrap containers, and the operator will comply with all plant Health, Safety and Environmental rules.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Understanding and following policies, procedures and instructions.
  2. Identifying and reporting product, process and quality system non-conformities to lead personnel.
  3. Supporting implementation of corrective/preventative and improvement actions.
  4. Proper use of personal protective equipment when required.
  5. Responding when paged to areas as soon as possible, as not to hinder production.
  6. Transporting raw materials, racks, skids, and other materials to the line to ensure uninterrupted flow of production.
  7. Transporting grids and pasted plates as needed.
  8. Removing finished goods from the line to ensure uninterrupted workflow of production.
  9. Must comply with all plant Health Safety and Environmental rules.
  10. Transporting scrap and hazardous waste containers to the Recycle Pad/Hazardous Waste Area.
  11. Transporting empty scrap and hazardous waste containers to plant locations when paged.
  12. Labeling hazardous waste and scrap containers.
  13. Entering scrap & hazardous waste data into logs daily.
  14. Maintaining and organizing racks and shelves.
  15. Be familiar and compliant with the systems, procedures and documentation of the Crown Quality System and how it relates to this position and Crown quality objectives.

This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.

Desirable traits include: strong communication; ability to work with other members on the production floor; troubleshot when necessary; ability to take ownership, have integrity, determination, and flexibility; organizational skills; ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisor and management.

Education, training and experience requirements include:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Experience with safety and environmental training
  • Minimum 1 year manufacturing/factory experience preferred in a fast-paced setting
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Forklift License
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving, prior forklift experience is required.

Work environment/physical demands include:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand/walk for 8-10 hours at a time. Bending, twisting, and turning. Full use of both hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or tooling; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk to hear. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds frequently and in excess of 140 pounds infrequently. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must follow OSHA guidelines on respirator fit testing and proper wear. Will wear goggles or face shield at all times while in department.
