Job description

Description:

The Outside Scrap Metal Buyer is responsible for developing and managing commercial scrap accounts throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. This field-based role is responsible for generating new business, purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap, increasing inbound material volumes, promoting container services, and building long-term customer relationships.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prospect and secure new commercial scrap accounts through cold calling, networking, referrals, and in-person visits.
  • Develop relationships with manufacturers, contractors, municipalities, automotive businesses, property managers, and other commercial customers
  • Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap while maintaining profitability and margin objectives
  • Promote roll-off container services to existing and prospective customers.
  • Prepare pricing proposals, negotiate service agreements, and coordinate container deliveries and pickups
  • Monitor market conditions, competitor activity, and scrap pricing trends.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and provide exceptional customer service to support retention and growth.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of outside sales, account management, business development, or scrap purchasing experience.
  • Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a field sales environment.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the assigned territory.
  • 2+ years of experience in Non-Ferrous scrap metal procurement.
  • Experience in scrap metal recycling, waste management, construction, manufacturing, automotive recycling, or related industries preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Requires standing, walking on uneven ground, bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
