Job description

Job Summary:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, maintaining the integrity of financial records, supervising accounting staff, and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards. This role focuses heavily on operational accounting, reconciliations, process improvement, internal controls, and team management. This position will identify and drive improvements in accuracy, visibility, controls, and timeliness.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and general ledger activities

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including workload management, training, and performance evaluations

  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness

  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely completion of assigned accounting activities

  • Assist with annual financial audit, including working directly with the auditors to provide and explain supporting documentation.

  • Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, and operational efficiencies

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and applicable regulatory requirements

  • Assist with external and internal audit requests by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation

  • Manage accruals, prepaid expense schedules, amortization schedules, and other operational accounting functions as assigned

  • Partner with cross-functional departments to resolve accounting issues and improve processes

  • Monitor account activity and investigate variances or unusual transactions

  • Assist with ERP system maintenance, implementations, upgrades, and process automation initiatives


Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong communication and leadership abilities

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls

  • Proficiency in Excel required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to concisely communicate project status and key issues for management attention.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work with different departments and with various levels of company personnel; demonstrates initiative and is self-motivated; shows a willingness to work individually and as a team to help others when needed

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

  • Technical knowledge of GAAP, general accounting practices, and procedures

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience supervising general accounting functions.

  • At least 2 years of experience managing people.

  • Experience with ERP systems, JD Edwards experience a plus
