Job SummaryThe Assistant Women's Basketball Coach supports all aspects of a competitive NJCAA program, including practice planning, game preparation, scouting, and in-game coaching, while playing a key role in recruiting and developing student-athletes who align with the program's academic and character standards. This position contributes to building a positive, high-performance team culture, monitors academic progress, and helps prepare student-athletes for transfer and post-athletic success. Additional responsibilities include coordinating travel, ensuring compliance with NJCAA and institutional regulations, assisting with program operations, and supporting fundraising efforts, camps, and community engagement initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & AbilitiesBasketball Knowledge & Coaching Fundamentals- Strong understanding of women's basketball rules, techniques, and strategies at the intercollegiate level
- Ability to analyze, break down, and teach advanced basketball skills and game strategies
- Evaluate opponents through scouting (strengths, weaknesses, tendencies)
- Apply athletic training principles to support performance and development
Program Operations & Administrative Support- Working knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures within a competitive community college athletic program
- Assist with administrative and managerial responsibilities typical of an assistant coach at the collegiate level
- Support maintenance of accurate statistical and program records
- Coordinate and assist with departmental initiatives and operations
Compliance & Eligibility- Knowledge of NJCAA/Region 18 policies and procedures
- Familiarity with NJCAA, NCAA, and NAIA eligibility rules and requirements
- Ability to research, interpret, and apply eligibility standards and implications
Academic Support & Advising- Understanding of SLCC admission, registration, and graduation requirements
- Utilize systems (e.g., Banner) to track and maintain student-athlete academic records
- Assist in organizing, implementing, and managing academic advising support for student-athletes
Leadership & Interpersonal Effectiveness- Demonstrate leadership skills and sound judgment in a team environment
- Build rapport and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, and staff
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Minimum qualifications- Bachelor's degree required.
- Zero (0) to two (2) years women's basketball coaching experience in an educational setting required.
Certified professional level experience considered. Trade off 1-to-1 in experience/education requirement. Part-time experience will be prorated.
