WORK TYPE: Full time, Exempt

LOCATION DETAILS: Remote work

WORK HOURS: Monday - Friday 8-5pm; remote + travel.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT: Event travel and attendance at staff meetings & training is required. Event travel will include overnight stays for events. Anticipate being available 2-3 weekends per month during event season should coverage be required.

COMPENSATION:The standard pay range for this role is between $60,000 a year.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

UCA Scoring Support Specialistplays a key role in delivering exceptional customer and event experience by ensuring the accuracy, transparency, and consistency of scoring operations across regional and championship events. As a vital member of the Scoring and Judging Team, this position supports coaches, judges, and event staff by hiring and training school judges, coordinating judge scheduling, developing rules and scoring for the UCA brand, leading training on scoring systems and rules, and managing all scoring-related inquiries before, during, and after competitions.

Working closely with the Scoring Committee, UCA Brand Manager, UCA Curriculum Team, Varsity Scoring Team, and Varsity Regional Offices, the UCA Scoring Specialist ensures alignment across camps and competitions through accurate documentation and consistent communication.

This position reports directly to the School Scoring Manager and requires regular travel to assigned UCA camps, regional events, Varsity Brands National Championship events, and other Varsity Brands-sponsored events as needed. The role also includes active participation in staff meetings, training sessions, and event support responsibilities throughout the year.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT:

Scoring Operations

  • Collaborate with the Scoring Committee on deduction systems, rules, and score sheet updates.
  • Develop and maintain all UCA scoring-related documents.
  • Address coach and on-site scoring questions before, during, and after events.

Training & Education

  • Partner with Curriculum to ensure accurate scoring content in camp manuals and materials.
  • Create and lead judge and coach training sessions across UCA and Legacy Brands.
  • Present scoring updates at camps, coaches' trainings, judge convention and coordinate speakers across UCA camps.

Judge Management

  • Recruit, onboard, and schedule judges for regional and championship competitions.
  • Coordinate travel, payments, and compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate judge performance and implement follow-up training as needed.
  • Manage disciplinary actions for underperformance or professionalism concerns.
  • Coordinate with state association partnerships for scheduling judges.

Competition Implementation

  • Attend Varsity Brand Regional and National Competitions throughout the school and all-star seasons
  • Work as Scoring Manager and Accuscore at UCA and Legacy Brand events to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Attend Varsity All-Star events in various scoring team capacities

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Proficient in School and All Star Cheer and scoring systems and related event technology platforms.
  • Strong proficiency with productivity tools, including Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and Google Workspace applications (e.g., Forms, Sheets, and Docs)
  • Demonstrate ability to deliver exceptional customer service in fast-paced event environments.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with diverse teams, judges, and customers
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify, address, and resolve scoring and customer issues efficiently.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Education, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in events/competitions
  • Proven ability leading a team with demonstrated business results
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office required
