The Senior Manager, Application & Modality Storytelling will lead the development of science-forward narratives that connect Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Biosciences Division portfolio to high-priority applications, modalities, workflows, and customer challenges in life sciences research.
This role will sit at the intersection of integrated marketing, business unit strategy, scientific content, portfolio marketing, and customer engagement. The successful candidate will build compelling, evidence-based stories that span multiple business units and help customers understand how Thermo Fisher enables progress across complex and evolving areas of research and therapeutic innovation.
This individual will be responsible for creating scalable storytelling frameworks that translate product and workflow strengths into differentiated, customer-relevant narratives. They will partner closely with business unit marketing teams, commercial teams, scientific subject matter experts, agency partners, corporate brand teams, and regional stakeholders to elevate cross-portfolio stories and bring them to life through campaigns, content, events, thought leadership, and integrated activation plans.
In the near term, the role will support the development and refinement of strategic storytelling frameworks for an initial priority application or modality area, including audience strategy, narrative architecture, workflow storytelling, evidence mapping, content gap analysis, and pilot activation planning.
Location
This is an onsite role based in one of the following locations: Carlsbad, CA; Austin, TX; Grand Island, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; Rockford, IL; Waltham, MA. Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Build application- and modality-based storytelling frameworks that connect customer needs, scientific trends, workflow challenges, and Thermo Fisher capabilities across multiple business units.
- Develop clear narrative architectures, messaging pillars, proof points, and activation guidance for priority research areas, workflows, applications, and modalities.
- Translate complex scientific, technical, and portfolio information into cohesive stories for campaigns, content, web, events, sales enablement, thought leadership, and commercial programs.
- Serve as a divisional connector and cross-company storytelling partner, identifying synergies across business units and helping teams move from product-centric messaging to integrated, science-led narratives.
- Partner with business unit marketing, portfolio marketing, integrated marketing, commercial, R&D, application science, and external agency teams to align on audience needs, claims, evidence, content priorities, and activation opportunities.
- Use customer, market, competitive, and portfolio insights to shape storytelling priorities and ensure narratives are relevant, differentiated, and commercially meaningful.
- Assess existing content, claims, scientific evidence, and portfolio assets to identify gaps, duplication, and opportunities to strengthen campaign readiness.
- Create repeatable tools, templates, and processes that enable marketing teams to build and activate cross-portfolio stories consistently.
- Support pilot activation plans, including content recommendations, channel considerations, commercial enablement needs, and success metrics.
- Influence stakeholders across a matrixed organization, driving alignment, clarity, and momentum around priority application and modality stories.
Keys to Success
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a life science discipline required.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in life sciences marketing, scientific communications, portfolio marketing, content strategy, campaign strategy, or a related role within life sciences, biotechnology, diagnostics, biopharma, or scientific products.
- Strong scientific and application-level understanding, with the ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, compelling narratives for scientific and commercial audiences.
- Experience developing marketing strategies, messaging frameworks, content strategies, or integrated campaigns across multiple products, workflows, or business units.
- Ability to analyze customer, market, competitor, and portfolio inputs to identify strategic storytelling opportunities.
- Strong cross-functional leadership skills, including the ability to influence without authority and align stakeholders in a matrixed organization.
- Experience partnering with agencies and managing strategic deliverables from brief through executional handoff.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and project management skills.
Preferred
- Advanced degree in a life science discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experience in biosciences, molecular biology, cell biology, protein biology, antibodies, imaging, flow cytometry, cell and gene therapy, synthetic biology, neuroscience, oncology, immunology, or related research areas.
- Experience developing disease-area, application-area, workflow, or modality-based marketing strategies.
- Familiarity with claims development, scientific evidence mapping, content governance, legal/regulatory review, and commercial enablement.
- Experience working in a global organization with regional marketing and commercial teams.
Key Success Measures
- Scalable storytelling frameworks adopted by business units and marketing teams.
- Stronger alignment across business units on priority audiences, narratives, proof points, and activation opportunities.
- Clearer, more differentiated stories that elevate Thermo Fisher’s role in key applications, workflows, and modalities.
- Identification of content, evidence, and claims gaps that improve campaign readiness.
- Pilot activation plans that demonstrate customer relevance, commercial value, and measurable marketing impact.
Leadership Profile
