Job description

This Investments, Derivatives, & Risk Operations Actuarial Internship will be open for summer of 2027. As an Intern, you will have an opportunity to support and gain exposure to several areas across the department including: Asset and Derivative Operations, Derivative Controls & Reporting, Investment Data Strategy & Management, and Vendor Risk Management. Specific responsibilities may include:
  • Supporting general account and separate account-related operational activities across the assets and derivatives backing Venerable's portfolios by working with internal resources across the organization, including Investment Management, Financial Risk Management, Corporate Risk Management, Hedging, Treasury, Investment Accounting, Legal, and IT.
  • Partnering with external providers such as investment managers, derivative services providers, bank counterparties, and other external vendors to operationally support Venerable's assets and derivatives.
  • Assisting with investment data and market data initiatives across Risk and Finance, including using data analysis tools to summarize data extracts, to organize data at varying levels, and to interpret trends in data for various purposes such as reporting across assets, and/or derivatives.
  • Aiding with ongoing investment data management efforts, including internal database maintenance, data integrity, business analysis, as well as ad hoc reporting. This may also include assisting with quantitative analysis, and improving processes and/or documentation.
  • Developing presentations or memorandums to summarize analysis and results for various internal or external audiences.
  • Building an understanding of variable annuities, their key risk drivers, and the assets and derivatives backing these products
Qualifications:
  • Candidates applying to our actuarial internships are expected to have solid mathematical and technical skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and display personal initiative as well as attention to detail.
  • Prior internship or co-op experienced preferred but not required. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and exposure to additional programming languages (R, Python, VBA, SQL) a plus. GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Preferred Majors: Preferred Majors: Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics or other related majors
  • Competitive pay, study hours, and financial support for pursuit of actuarial exams is included.
  • Other: No housing provided, but Venerable offers travel stipend. Hybrid work schedule whereby Venerable is currently in the office in West Chester, PA 3 days a week and then work from home 2 days a week. Please note, this internship is not open to students who require sponsorship for U.S. work authorization now or in the future.
