POSITION TITLE: Elementary Math & Science Spanish Immersion Teacher
GRADES: K-5
STATUS: Full-Time, 10-month position
Position Description:
Spanish Immersion Teachers follow a 50/50 immersion model and provide core instruction in content areas to two homeroom classes on alternating days providing instruction entirely in Spanish while their counterpart provides instruction in English.
Responsibilities:
  • Spanish Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.
  • Plan daily academic, differentiated lessons and implement specific strategies to meet the language acquisition needs of all students.
  • Working knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for Literacy and Mathematics, Arriba la Lectura Reading and Writing Curriculum, Engage New York Math Program, and Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Use technology to create personalized and blended learning experiences.
  • Be accountable for students' academic growth and achievement.
  • Design and implement summative assessments to measure progress towards academic standards and formative assessments to drive instruction.
  • Use assessment data to inform curricular and instructional practices.
  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment following the responsive classroom approach.
  • Reflect on successes and areas of growth as a teacher, seek to improve performance, and respond to feedback.
  • Participate in curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
  • Collaborate with others in weekly meetings including grade level team members, instructional coaches, and administration.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding their children's academic success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Preferably previous experience in Dual Language Instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and/or Elementary Bilingual Education.
  • Possession or eligibility for a valid State of Delaware teaching license (for more information, please visit the website of the Department of Education at: http://regulations.delaware.gov/AdminCode/title14/1500/1510.shtml.
  • Successful completion of Praxis I and II exams.
  • World Language Praxis (Spanish)
  • Strong instructional skills and classroom management.
  • Ability to reflect upon teaching practices and respond to constructive feedback.
