Job description

About Breaking Data

Breaking Data is a boutique healthcare agency serving a broad portfolio of global pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Our team partners closely with clients to develop medically accurate, strategically aligned, and highly actionable content across sales training, marketing, payer access, and medical educationโ€”helping brands better educate HCPs, patients, and payers.

Founded by marketers, for marketers, we specialize in simplifying complex clinical information to develop engaging marketing tools that align with brand strategy and effectively reach target audiences across channels.

About the culture

Breaking Data is a healthcare agency full of "A" teamers. We move quickly, collaborate closely in our Cherry Hill office, and value people who take ownership, help the team win, and are serious about their own growth.

Medical Writer / Copywriter| Boutique Life Sciences Agency

Location: US-Cherry Hill, NJ

Employment Type: Full-time (3 days in office / 2 days remote)

Benefits: Health insurance compensation, 401K program, paid time off, and company holidays

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Opportunity Overview

If youโ€™re serious about growing as a pharma writer and want to work with a team that values both your science brain and your creative instincts, Breaking Data could be your next home. Youโ€™ll join a boutique healthcare agency that partners with global pharmaceutical and biotech companies to create medically accurate, strategically aligned, and highly actionable content across sales training, marketing, payer access, and medical education.

As a Medical Writer / Copywriter at Breaking Data, youโ€™ll sit at the intersection of high-science medical writing and promotional copy. Youโ€™ll take client ideas, meeting notes, or early concepts and turn them into clear outlines and manuscripts that are scientifically accurate, fully referenced, and structured in a way that makes it easy for our design team to build compelling, well-structured pieces. On any given day, you might be translating complex clinical data into an engaging training module, tightening a set of promo headlines for an HCP campaign, or building a referenced manuscript thatโ€™s ready for MLR review.

Youโ€™ll work closely with our Creative Director, Medical Writer, and cross-functional teammates in account, strategy, and designโ€”joining key client discussions when needed, helping to shape the story, and then owning the content through drafts, reviews, and revisions. Youโ€™ll also think beyond any single pieceโ€”keeping related materials aligned when messaging changes and partnering with project management and design to keep work moving smoothly.

This is a full-time role based in our Cherry Hill, NJ office, with a hybrid schedule of 5 workdays per week: 3 days in-office alongside the team and 2 days working from home. Itโ€™s ideal for someone who wants to be embedded in a fast-paced, collaborative environment; someone who takes ownership, moves quickly, and is serious about both helping the team win and growing their own career.

Responsibilities

Own high-science and promotional writing

  • Write clear, accurate, fully referenced content across formats, including training modules, educational tools, presentations, white papers, and field resources.
  • Develop short-form promotional copy (headlines, taglines, emails, pull-through pieces) that aligns with brand strategy and tone of voice.

Turn ideas into outlines and manuscripts

  • Take client asks, meeting notes, and early concepts and translate them into structured outlines and manuscripts that tell a coherent, on-strategy story.
  • Structure content so the hierarchy, flow, and key messages are clear for design and production teams.

Ensure accuracy, referencing, and MLR readiness

  • Conduct literature searches and reference sourcing and annotate content to support MLR and internal review requirements.
  • Maintain a high bar for scientific accuracy, clarity, and consistency across all assigned pieces.

Keep work moving and connected

  • Manage multiple projects at once, balancing timelines and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Help keep related materials aligned when messaging, safety language, or key claims change, partnering with project management and design to avoid bottlenecks.

Collaborate with clients and internal teams

  • Work closely with our Creative Director, Medical Writer, and cross-functional teammates in account, strategy, and design throughout the content development process.
  • Join client discussions as needed, listen for nuance, capture feedback, and translate it into thoughtful revisions that stay on strategy.
  • Support occasional client meetings, advisory boards, or industry events that require content expertise (some travel as needed).

Who you are

Background and experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in medical writing, pharma copywriting, or a related healthcare/agency role (pharma, biotech, or medical education experience strongly preferred).
  • Strong science foundation, such as a bachelor's degree in a life science (eg, biology, chemistry, pharmacy) or equivalent experience working with clinical data and pharmaceutical brands. An advanced degree or clinical background is a plus, but not required.
  • Hands-on experience working with references, annotations, and copy approval processes (MLR, med-legal-regulatory, or similar).

How to apply

If youโ€™re looking for the next step in your writing career and are serious about growing as a pharma writer with a team that values both your science brain and your creative instincts, we welcome you to apply so we can explore how your talents fit within our team.

Please apply via LinkedIn using the Easy Apply button and include:

  • Your resume
  • 2โ€“4 writing samples that demonstrate both:
  • referenced, scientifically grounded content (for example, a training module, manuscript, or slide deck)
  • shorter-form promotional copy (for example, an email, leave-behind, or campaign copy)

You can share samples in any of these ways:

  • Add them as additional pages at the end of your resume PDF
  • Include links to online samples or a portfolio within your resume
  • Or email samples directly to HR@breakingdata.com with the subject line โ€œMedical Writer / Copywriter applicationโ€
