POSITION SUMMARY:

The American Political Science Association (APSA) seeks a full-time Communications & Marketing Assistant to join our Communications & Marketing team. The Assistant plays a crucial part in supporting the marketing and content management efforts for a major membership association. The Assistant supports the efforts of the Communications & Marketing team, including assisting with online, electronic, and print communications through the association's website, social media, email campaigns, and print and online membership initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the execution of marketing and communications strategies and plans that support the organization’s mission and objectives
  • In coordination with the Senior Director, Communications and Marketing, develop, update and proof marketing and communication materials across the association (i.e. Annual meeting programming, member guides and packets, staff business cards and learning tools, etc.)
  • In coordination with Communications and Development staff, support marketing, promotion, and development efforts for a range of initiatives including workshops, scholarships, awards, and grants
  • Assist with managing social media promotions and communications across multiple platforms
  • Monitor social media channels and develop content for social media for review by Senior Director, including drafting messages and creating graphics
  • Support the publishing of the APSA member newsletter by assisting with composing, designing, and curating news
  • Support the email marketing efforts of the association, including assisting with managing advertising email inquiries and publication advertisements
  • Prepare reports on social media metrics and email campaign performance
  • Assist teams in updating content on APSA’s websites via WordPress sites
  • Provide general administrative support to Communications team as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Experience with digital marketing management tools: Hootsuite, Sprout Social
  • Experience with design software: Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva
  • Knowledge of social media platforms such as but not limited to Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Bluesky
  • Excellent communication, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Well-organized and pays attention to detail with the capacity to manage multiple projects with initiative
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

FLSA STATUS:

This position is considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Hourly rate: $28.08-$32.31, which equates to approximately $51,100-$58,800 annually with our 35-hour work week.
