Job Title:           Warehouse Operator                                 Wage/Hour Status:   Hourly

Reports to:        Warehouse Supervisor                              Pay Grade:   Manual Grade 3

Primary Purpose:

Assist in receiving, storing, issuing and delivering of equipment, tools, and supplies, maintaining inventory control, and doing the required recordkeeping in the District warehouse.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Texas driver's license (Class C)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to operate hand tools and mechanical equipment, including a forklift.

Ability to read supply requisitions and perform basic arithmetic.

Ability to operate light truck.

Experience:

Two years' experience with deliveries and inventory control procedures

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Receiving

  1. Verify accuracy of shipments by counting, or measuring items and comparing size, weight, description, and code numbers with information on packing slip, record any discrepancies or damage.
  2. Open crates and other containers using hand tools to unpack items received. Inspect shipments for damage and defects.

Inventory

  1. Move inventory to various locations manually and by operating mechanical equipment, including fork lift, pallet jack, and handcart.
  2. Sort and store items according to established procedures.
  3. Take physical counts periodically of the inventory.
  4. Requisition additional supplies from purchasing department as needed.
  5. Maintain custody receipts for items being repaired and loaned out temporarily.

Distribution

  1. Read and fill requisitions for stock items. Verify accuracy of orders pulled.
  2. Drive truck to various locations to deliver materials. Obtain authorized signature for supplies requested.
  3. Load and unload delivery truck by hand or by use of hand truck.

Safety

  1. Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles according to prescribed safety procedures.
  2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, carrying, etc.
  3. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Equipment Used:

Hand tools, forklift, ladder, dolly, pallet jack, handtruck, and light truck (less than 26,000 lbs.).

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching; heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside; work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects or vehicles; work on ladders and scaffolding. Exposure to dampness and humidity and slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
