STATUS: Part-time
LOCATION: Unity Hospital - 1555 Long Pond Road
Rochester, NY 14626
DEPARTMENT: Perioperative Services
SCHEDULE: Mon-Fri - 7:30 am - 4 pm - Hybrid (onsite & remote)
SUMMARY
Inpatient and outpatient scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and co-pay collection.
ATTRIBUTES

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrates accurate scheduling of all inpatient and outpatient appointments/procedures.
  • Completes the pre-registration process by collecting accurate patient demographic, insurance, and co-pay information.
  • Performs insurance verification using PCEasy, Quicklink, Omnipro, and calls Commercial Insurance companies to identify co-payments and initiate referrals to the hospital financial counselor.
  • Interfaces with referring offices for accurate scheduling of procedures and/or pretesting appointments via telephone and fax.
  • Coordinates patient information mailings.
  • Demonstrates the ability to arrange for interpreters for all hearing-impaired patients.
  • Demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize tasks and communications in a highly efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in downtime procedures.
  • Answers telephone promptly, identifies self, and uses proper telephone etiquette.
  • Demonstrates respect for patients' rights by maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information and following HIPAA guidelines. Collects and documents information requested by HIPAA requirements.
  • Demonstrates professional communication with all customers, including the ability to appropriately handle complaints or concerns expressed by offices.
  • Additional Essential Functions for Surgical Services:
  • Communicates changes to the Surgical Schedule in a timely manner to the scheduling supervisor or Nurse Manager.
  • Assesses future schedules one to three weeks out for dropped blocks, room gaps, and reports such to the scheduling supervisor or Nurse Manager.
  • Accepts need to float and/or provide assistance to other registration staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • HS Graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Two years of health care experience in the area of secretarial, registration, medical billing, and insurance verification preferred
