Job description

Overview
Presbyterian Homes & Services is seeking Fitness Instructors for our team. The Fitness Instructor leads, instructs and motivates individuals or groups in exercise activities in assigned PHS locations. This may include aquatic exercise activities if aquatic facilities are located on the assigned campus. The Fitness Instructor works with the Fitness Director to develop the curriculum and lesson plans necessary to ensure classes are delivered to address the wellness objectives of the participants. Additional responsibilities include: ensuring the facilities and equipment are operating safely, maintaining a high level of sanitation and cleanliness in the Fitness areas, and ensuring program and services are operated in accordance to policies and procedures as well as State and local regulations.
SCHEDULE: Full-time, Part-Time and On-Call positions available Monday- Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm with occasional Saturdays.
SITES SUPPORTED: Primary need is at Waverly Gardens, but hours may be available at other surrounding sites including: Harbor Crossing, The Farmstead, Scandia Shores and SummerHouse of Shoreview.
REPORTING STRUCTURE: The Fitness Instructor reports the the Fitness Director at the designated HUB.

Responsibilities
Some of the responsibilities of the Fitness Instructor include (but are not limited to):
  • Conduct professional classes in balance, strengthening, flexibility, endurance and additional topics which may be of benefit to the participants of the Fitness Center.
  • In cooperation with the Fitness Director, develop and implement a curriculum and schedule of classes that will address the needs of the participants of the Fitness Center and provide the variety and frequency of classes to reach a wide spectrum of participants based upon regulations and established best practices.
  • Supervise open swim as scheduled to monitor the utilization of the pool, and ensure the safety of all participants (sites with aquatic facilities only).
  • Administer standardized assessments in a uniform manner.
  • Educate and communicate to residents and caregivers on interventions and programs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean fitness area and equipment.
  • Monitor vital signs: blood pressure, pulse, respiration and oxygen saturation when applicable during fitness activities.
  • Complete accurate, legible and timely documentation which supports the services provided.
  • Accurately capture and bill for services provided when applicable, according to company policies and procedures.
  • Manages schedule to meet the needs of the resident. Flexible and adaptable to changes in the department/organization.

Qualifications
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Bachelors degree preferred in a related field or equivalent experience in the fitness industry.
3. Current nationally recognized certification in CPR.
4. Current Personal Training Certification
5. Current Group Fitness Certification
6. Must have the ability to relate professionally positively, and work cooperatively with residents, guests, families, and employees at all levels.
7. Able and willing to travel to other PHS communities.
8. Demonstrated compatibility with PHS's mission and operating philosophies.
9. Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language to communicate with all customers.
Pay Range
The estimated starting pay range for this role is $22.48 - $27.67 per hour. This good faith estimate is based upon PHS's typical starting pay range for this role. Actual pay range depends upon many factors including each individual employee's qualifications and market conditions and is subject to change.
