Job description

Braswell Scale is seeking an Independent Thinking, Self-Motivated, Detailed Oriented Scale Service Technician position. It is an exciting position that offers a different challenge every day, a collective team atmosphere, and the ability to develop personal relationships with our customers across a wide range of industries. As a Scale Technician you will be a motivated individual that enjoys contributing to a team, likes to be challenged and wants to learn a new trade.

Our Scale Service Technician position requires a broad range of skills and abilities that are learned mostly with on the job training. They include but are not limited to:

TECHNICAL SKILLS ( can/will be learned on the job ) :

  • Basic to experienced mechanical & electrical knowledge
  • Basic to experienced equipment maintenance knowledge
  • Basic to experienced computer skills
  • Networking, Programming, Interfacing, Calibrations
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to learn & follow OSHA defined safety rules
  • Ability to obtain a CDL class โ€œBโ€ driverโ€™s license permit within 90-days of hire

  • Obtain a CDL class โ€œBโ€ driverโ€™s license within 6-months from date of hire

  • Familiarity with quality control

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS & HAZARDS:

  • Work is performed in all weather conditions and may be either in a shop environment or outside in the field in all temperatures
  • Potential hazards include working near or with heavy tools and moving machinery

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid NC State or out of state Driverโ€™s license
  • Clean 5-year driving record with only 1-at fault accident on record
  • Pass a DOT physical (DOT physical fee reimbursed)
  • Pass drug & alcohol test
  • Pass random drug tests throughout employment
  • Pass a background check w/I-9 verification

SCHEDULE & LOCATION:

The average work day consists of 8-hours and occasional overtime will be required.

  • There will be some overnight, out of town travel required
  • (overnight out of town is rotation based between all technicians)
  • There are some overtime requirements (schedule based for all technicians)
  • There will be some evening scheduled work (typically voluntary basis)
  • Daily operations range between Monday โ€“ Friday
  • Shifts range starting from 5 am to 8 am & ending from 2 pm to 5 pm (8 hours is a full work day)
  • Some weekends may be required for customer emergencies or scheduled service and installations but are mostly on a volunteer basis & scheduled in advance
  • customer emergencies - are not scheduled in advance
  • scheduled installations or service- will have notice

UNDERSTANDING THE POSITION:

We understand that Scale Service Technicians are not born, they are made. So, we understand that you may not have all the Technical skills we are looking for at first and thatโ€™s ok! We are willing to train the right candidate in most of the technical skills required. Within the first year, for several months you will work side by side, every day with a skilled, experienced and licensed technician who will train you on scale terminology, troubleshooting, and documentation procedures and many more valuable skills.

STANDARD DAILY TASKS INCLUDE:

  • AM team meeting with Supervisor
  • Preparation for daily jobs (prepping tools, parts, trucks etc. etc.)
  • Driving heavy capacity Test Truck to scheduled service, installation and/or repair calls
  • Consultation and communication with customers regarding weighing equipment
  • Daily customer paperwork and scheduling
  • Returning to shop each evening, unloading tools, parts etc. etc. and briefing of day

WEEKLY & MONTHLY TASKS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Organization & cleaning of warehouse and inventory parts
  • Inventory counts
  • Organization & cleaning of all company trucks
  • In house troubleshooting and repair of customer parts and equipment
  • Weighing equipment & truck adjustments
  • Weekly scheduling
  • Equipment manual downloads
  • Preparation and testing for TWIC card (Port Authority)
  • Preparation and testing for Safety Requirements (per company basis)
  • Safety Meetings & Inspections
