COMPANY

A leading aerospace metals manufacturer is seeking a senior technical leader to oversee metallurgy, engineering, and new product development for a key strategic customer program. This individual will serve as the primary technical authority for customer-facing initiatives, owning day-to-day operations tied to new product introduction, alloy development, quality performance, and product approvals.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Technical Director/Chief Metallurgist is responsible to provide metallurgical and engineering leadership and support related to the development, implantation, and continuous improvement of processes and products that safely and cost-effectively meet customer demands for quality, consistent, and on-time performance. This role will have management responsibility over facility metallurgy, lab and engineering.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Main point of contact with customers, regulatory, and government agencies on all metallurgy, lab or engineering related issues, and audits
  • Develop concise operating procedures/policies across the facility to drive repeatability and core knowledge requirements
  • Drive out variances within process to improve yield and reduce NCR/Scrap/submittals
  • Participates in development of business unit/plant policy for areas that directly impact or are impacted by NPI.
  • Participates in Teams of cross-functional personnel for the purpose of reorganizing/improving functionality across ISO group
  • Project manages new Product introduction (NPI) process in conjunction with engineering and quality.
  • EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONSFour-year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • Advanced degree in Materials/Metallurgy is highly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience working in a metallurgical capacity, preferably in a metal manufacturing environment. Must have experience providing support on a production floor.
  • Experience working in ISO 9001 and AS 9100 businesses.
  • Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practices
  • Specialized knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment
  • Understanding of the application of statistics and six sigma practices
  • Ability to provide mentorship to internal resources as requested within functional area
  • Ability to deliver results on schedule
  • Ability to recognize and communicate technical risks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)
  • Specification interpretation, SPC, Machining Processes, Customer specifications and requirements, Calibration requirements
