Metallurgical Lab Technician
Department: Manufacturing & Distribution - Skilled Jobs
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Columbia, PA - Plant
Reporting To: Andrew Reardon
Description
A Metallurgical Lab Technician will oversee the metal and sand testing required for process control in the foundry. This position is on 1st Shift, Monday through Friday plus weekends as scheduled.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Test iron samples for chemistry control.
• Monitor chemistry results and alert production of out-of-range conditions.
• Analyze samples for microstructure and alert production of out-of-range conditions.
• Test sand for properties and process control.
• Monitor sand test results and alert production of out-of-range conditions.
• Perform core sand tests as needed.
• Perform strength tests on sample pieces.
• Interact with production personnel based on results to maintain process control.
• Maintain lab equipment in good working order.
• Interact with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Maintenance, Machine Shop, Human Resources and Accounting on a need basis.
• Perform task assigned by the Metallurgist as needed.
• Maintain a clean workplace.
• Adhere to established safety and PPE requirements.
• Provides other support to production and management as required.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Required Experience and/or Education:
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment involving a fast-paced production workplace.
  • PC/Systems knowledge and skills.
  • Strong leadership, communications, and interpersonal skills with ability to interact with all levels of employees, customers and outside professionals.
