What is SCADA software sales?

SCADA software sales involve selling Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, which are used to monitor and control industrial processes such as manufacturing, energy, and water management. Sales professionals in this field work with clients to understand their operational needs, demonstrate how SCADA solutions can improve efficiency and reliability, and manage the sales process from initial contact to post-sale support. This role often requires technical knowledge of industrial automation and strong communication skills to effectively convey the value of SCADA products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SCADA software sales professional?

To thrive as a SCADA Software Sales professional, you need a solid understanding of industrial automation, sales techniques, and a background in engineering or technology, often supported by a relevant degree or technical certifications. Familiarity with SCADA platforms, CRM software, and industry-specific tools is critical for effectively managing client relationships and product demonstrations. Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills help set you apart in engaging clients and understanding their needs. These competencies enable you to effectively convey complex technical value propositions, close deals, and drive growth in a competitive technology market.

What are some common challenges faced in SCADA software sales, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in SCADA software sales is effectively communicating complex technical features to clients with varying levels of technical expertise. Building strong relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is crucial, as purchasing decisions often involve multiple departments. Additionally, staying updated on industry trends and competitors helps address client concerns and positions the software as a tailored solution. Successful sales professionals often collaborate closely with engineering and support teams to provide demonstrations, answer technical questions, and ensure smooth implementation, which helps build trust and close deals.

Job description

What we do

At Terabase Energy, we believe that digitalization and automation will drive the next wave of innovation and cost reduction in large scale solar. To fully unlock the potential of this opportunity, Terabase is developing an interconnected software and construction automation platform. We work alongside project developers, owners, and engineering & construction firms to support the design, optimization, and construction of huge solar projects around the world. Our team is a blend of solar-industry veterans and newbies, thought-leaders, dreamers, software, electrical and mechanical engineers, coders, product managers, project managers, and sales and marketing professionals. We are based in Northern California, with several other offices in the United States and around the world.

Job Description
As Director, Portfolio Delivery within the Terabase SCADA program, you will report to the Senior Director of Project Delivery and own the strategic direction, organizational health, P&L performance, and scalable growth of the Project Management and Delivery program. You will lead a global team of Project Managers, Business Analysts, and Project Coordinators and own the execution and delivery of SCADA projects. You will own key customer relationships at an executive level and serve as the primary cross-functional leader connecting delivery operations with Product, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Sales, and Finance to ensure SCADA systems are implemented, tested, and delivered within scope, time, and budget.

Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership & Strategy

  • Set the strategic direction, operating model, and annual delivery roadmap for SCADA projects, and design the Program's operating cadence and governance - structured project reviews, escalation protocols, and decision-making frameworks - to enable scalable, predictable delivery and commercial excellence.
  • Identify operational risks, organizational constraints, and scaling challenges, and develop and own the mitigation and growth strategies to address them.
  • Represent the SCADA Program in executive forums, leadership planning, and company-wide strategic initiatives.

Delivery & Customer Operations

  • Serve as the senior Terabase relationship owner for a portfolio of large, complex projects, managing the full engagement lifecycle from booking to delivery.
  • Act as the voice of the customer across portfolio and project execution, customer success, and quality, and lead execution-focused workshops that improve overall experience.
  • Partner with Sales on deal review committee (DRC) submissions and account expansion, bringing delivery feasibility and operational input into the pursuit process.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a global team of managers, project managers, coordinators, and analysts owning task and resource prioritization, performance management, and compensation reviews.
  • Define clear role expectations and build bench strength through individual development plans, mentoring, and performance feedback - developing successors and stretch candidates through deliberate exposure to cross-functional initiatives, executive customer ownership, and contract management.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and organizational design to build capacity ahead of business demand and run the team's operating rhythm and alignment meetings.

Process & Delivery Excellence

  • Own the SCADA Project Management playbook as the single source of truth for how the Program delivers, and drive adoption across the team.
  • Standardize FAT preparation, design-and-operations readiness reviews, and project delivery tracking across FNE, Met, and SCADA products.
  • Own the Project Delivery technology stack - Cora as the program system of record, NetSuite (ERP), and Arena (PLM) - driving operational efficiency through automation and AI, and ensure SCADA performance, RMA/warranty, and KPI dashboards give leadership real-time visibility into program health across the portfolio.

Business & Financial Management

  • Partner with the OT Business Unit to manage the P&L for the SCADA Program including project margin, portfolio profitability, revenue recognition, and resource utilization with accountability for committed financial targets.
  • Own annual planning, budgeting, revenue forecasting, and initiative prioritization across headcount, tooling, and infrastructure - partnering with Finance and Sales on a rolling view of bookings, pipeline, and backlog - and build financial cases (ROI, headcount, cost/pricing) for operational decisions.
  • Oversee client billing, collections, and project procurement, holding the team accountable for controlling program spend against budget.
  • Own delivery commercial accountability: partner with Sales and Legal on contract reviews and MSA negotiations and operate every engagement to the executed contract.
  • Own portfolio schedule tracking, own the bi-weekly SCADA program report and KPI update for leadership, and close the loop on client survey results.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, energy, or a related field.
  • 10+ years in project or operations management in solar/renewable energy, heavy construction, energy, or other relevant fields - SCADA experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of people leadership, including managing Managers or cross-functional organizations and remote, international teams, with a track record of building and scaling a delivery organization.
  • Proven financial and commercial acumen: ROI analyses, budgets, and cost/pricing models.
  • Experience owning executive customer relationships, MSA negotiation, and delivery to scope and SLA commitments.
  • Hands-on adoption of ERP and/or PLM systems (e.g., NetSuite, Arena), and working fluency with PM and collaboration tooling (JIRA, Confluence, MS Project, Salesforce).
  • Strong communication, executive presence, and ability to influence across levels and functions.
  • Comfortable working in a remote or hybrid environment; able to travel up to 25%, primarily to US-based project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in a related field such as engineering, project management, operations, or otherwise.
  • Certification: PMP, PgMP, or PMI-ACP certification preferred.
  • Experience working with SCADA systems, grid controllers, and Met stations.
