With regular attendance, this position is responsible for preparing and maintaining legal documents and case files and assisting with trial preparation. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES Assist attorneys with preparation for hearings, trials, motions, and other court proceedings. Prepare and compile discovery materials in accordance with court rules and confidentiality requirements.
Assist in obtaining police reports, medical records, photographs, digital evidence, and other evidentiary materials. Serves as the primary point of contact for sending out discovery requests to defense attorneys and ensures all discovery is obtained from law enforcement. Provide courtroom support during trials.
Perform legal research or investigate support assignments as directed. Coordinates research related to motions and trial strategies including research conducted by law clerks. Draft complex motions which require research.
Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Associate's degree in paralegal studies, criminal justice, legal studies, or a related field. Possession of a Paralegal Certificate from an accredited paralegal program.
2 years of work experience as a paralegal or legal support. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse individuals. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite and other software related to data management, communication, and other common business processes. Ability to follow established policies and procedures for confidentiality while adapting to evolving privacy standards and technologies. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships within a team.
Knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and legal document preparation practices. Knowledge of trial preparation procedures, evidentiary documentation, and courtroom support processes. Skill in preparing, proofreading, formatting, and processing legal documents.
Skill in organizing and maintaining detailed physical and electronic case files and records. Skill in reviewing and coordinating work activities for law clerks and interns.
