About the Role

As a Job Coach with Harbor Crew, you'll lead a hardworking team of individuals with disabilities in maintaining the Santa Barbara Harbor. You'll provide hands-on training, mentorship, and encouragement, helping crew members gain work experience and build independence. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outside, mentoring others, and contributing to a cleaner, more vibrant community.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a crew of individuals with disabilities while they perform harbor maintenance tasks.
  • Provide job training, encouragement, and guidance to help crew members succeed.
  • Ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to quality standards.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive work environment.
  • Maintain records and reports related to crew progress and job performance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
  • Comfortable ascending and descending stairs.
  • Capacity to push or pull wheelchairs when necessary.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, hearing, and understanding technical written materials.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs using safe lifting techniques
  • Full awareness of environmental stimuli to ensure a safe and responsive environment.
  • Willingness to be trained in and implement crisis management and safety techniques

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with persons with developmental and/or other disabilities in individual and/or group settings preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality regarding persons served and other related information
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to effectively navigate and utilize iPad features and applications for daily tasks, including managing schedules, communication, and data entry.
  • Ability to complete tasks with numerous interruptions
  • Compassion and respect for persons with disabilities
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and understanding because people served may have intellectual, emotional, or behavioral challenges, in addition to physical limitations
  • May need to be available during any disasters, per disaster plan
  • Must have reliable phone
  • Valid certification in CPR/First Aid (Training included)
