Job description

POSITION: Casting Engineer, Gas Turbine Alloys

LOCATION: Jupiter, FL

STATUS: Salary-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

Experienced casting engineer with in-depth knowledge of investment casting process, sand casting process, and nickel alloys used in gas turbine components. This includes understanding the effects of heat treatment and manufacturing processing on properties. Execution and validation of design casting requirements at existing and new suppliers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Review and execute approval of special manufacturing processes that have casting or related metallurgical requirements

· Cast gas turbine material knowledge: Stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys

· Identifying heat treatment requirements

· Verify appropriate casting manufacturing processes and sequences will produce parts that meet metallurgical requirements. This includes:

· Investment casting, sand casting, heat treatment

· Material related non-conformance assessments and dispositions

· Root cause analysis

· Engineering drawing review for casting requirements

· Responsible for material and process qualification specification creation and revisions

· Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education & Training

· Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering or other relevant field.

· Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix

Skills/Experience

· 10+ years experience with investment casting and/or sand casting of metal alloys used for gas turbines

· Familiar with equiaxed, directionally solidified, and single crystal casting processes.

· Familiar with commercial material specifications – domestic and international

· Able to interpret engineering prints

· Available for travel to suppliers for qualification review and audits, as-needed

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office software

· Must be a detail-oriented, high energy, self-starter with the ability to drive the successful completion of projects within specified time frames

· Process and Team-oriented; able to work with a diverse workforce

· Strong written and oral communication skills

· Trustworthy, quick learning, innovative and reliable Quality assurance experience in production environment

· Working knowledge of non-destructive inspection techniques (penetrant, ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle) preferred
