Job description

Blackwater Technical Services, Inc. ("Blackwater") is an independent ISO 17025 certified laboratory performing product certification testing for Miami-Dade, Florida Building Code, and other governing organizations.

Blackwater has a need for installation technicians to fabricate and erect test chambers and install window and door systems. Rough carpentry and/or metal fabrication skills are highly desired, as we build tube steel frames and wooden chambers for product testing. Experience in installing window walls, curtain walls, railings, siding/cladding products, roll-down shutters, and all types of residential and commercial doors and windows (pivot, sliding, casement, etc.) is desired but not required. The successful applicant will be dependable, self-motivated, organized, and eager to learn. While the shop environment is fast-paced, employees are expected to perform their tasks safely, responsibly, and with due care to personnel and equipment.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Construction of test bucks/fixtures and Installation of test specimens to include:
    • Unloading/movement of samples using forklifts and/or 8K telehandler
    • Cleanup of work areas, shop, and parking lot
    • Breakdown of specimens for disposal (saw cutting glass and aluminum frames)
    • Safe teardown/removal of test fixtures and specimens, Sample cutting from specimens
    • Caulking of test fixtures and specimens
    • Fabrication of miscellaneous jigs and specialty tools.
    • Drilling/anchoring of test fixtures and specimens into concrete, steel and wood
    • Core drilling, forming/mixing of concrete
    • Glass handling with manual and automatic suction cups
    • Construction of 2x10 wooden frames, wood frame walls, steel frame walls, etc
    • Work at heights up to 40’ in manlifts, buckets, or on top of test fixtures while tied off/harnessed, or on ladders as necessary
    • Layout, rigging, placement, and welding of large steel beams/structures
    • Measuring and cutting steel and wood utilizing saws and/or cutting torch
  • Adherence to Safety Program
  • Daily equipment inspections and logs
  • Misc tasks or other duties as assigned
  • Work is outdoors or indoors in a non-conditioned environment

Skills/Experience Desired:

  • Rigging/lifting
  • Welding and/or Rough carpentry
  • General Mechanical/Equipment Repair skills
  • Basic math and measurement
  • Forklift certification is a plus, but we will train/certify the successful applicant.
  • Ability to read blueprints and product assembly drawings is desired, but not required.
