Sample Control Technician

Position Summary
The Sample Control Technician is responsible for receiving, logging, tracking, and distributing laboratory samples while ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and proper documentation throughout the sample lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in supporting laboratory operations by maintaining sample integrity, preparing collection kits, and coordinating sample shipments.
Pay: 17.67/hr.
Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming samples against Chain of Custody (COC) documentation and associated project information.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in sample documentation and communicate issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Log samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and assign tracking numbers.
  • Label, organize, and distribute samples to the appropriate laboratory departments for testing.
  • Prepare and assemble sample collection bottle kits for clients in accordance with EPA, DOT, and company procedures.
  • Package and ship samples to external laboratories while ensuring compliance with DOT shipping regulations.
  • Properly dispose of samples, laboratory waste, and hazardous materials following established safety procedures.
  • Monitor and document freezer and refrigerator temperatures to ensure compliance with SOP requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Assist with inventory management by stocking laboratory supplies and monitoring inventory levels.
  • Follow all laboratory safety policies and environmental compliance procedures.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Laboratory Science or a related scientific field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in sample management, laboratory support, logistics, or a related environment preferred.
  • Experience working with laboratory documentation, Chain of Custody forms, or LIMS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and DOT shipping regulations is preferred.

Skills
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with laboratory information systems (LIMS) or data entry.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to accurately document information.
  • Commitment to maintaining quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
