Direct Counsel represents an Am Law 100 firm seeking a Tax Controversy Associate Attorney to join its offices in Boston, Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a premier global law firm on sophisticated tax disputes and high-stakes matters.

About the Practice Group

The Tax Controversy Practice Group advises clients on complex U.S. federal, state, local, and cross-border tax disputes. The team handles matters involving corporate tax, partnership tax, transfer pricing, international tax, SALT, and criminal tax issues, representing clients throughout audits, investigations, negotiations, litigation, and appeals.

About the Role

The firm is seeking 2nd–5th year associates with 2+ years of experience in complex tax disputes to support a sophisticated tax controversy practice.

Responsibilities include:

  • Advising clients on complex tax controversy matters
  • Representing clients in disputes with tax authorities, including the IRS
  • Conducting legal research and drafting memoranda, briefs, and client communications
  • Assisting with litigation, negotiations, and appellate matters
  • Collaborating with attorneys across offices and practice groups
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • Admission to the applicable state bar (or eligibility to waive in)
  • 2+ years of experience in tax controversy matters
  • Experience with corporate, partnership, international tax, transfer pricing, SALT, or criminal tax matters preferred
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
