What are typical daily responsibilities for someone working in a salt shed?

Daily responsibilities in a salt shed typically include receiving and unloading salt deliveries, operating heavy machinery to move materials, keeping track of stock levels, and preparing loads for distribution to road crews or municipal departments. Workers often perform routine maintenance on equipment and ensure the shed remains organized and compliant with safety regulations. Collaboration is important, as the role requires close coordination with drivers, supervisors, and sometimes local government agencies, especially during inclement weather. The pace can increase significantly during winter storms, requiring adaptability and efficient teamwork. This dynamic environment offers valuable experience in logistics and equipment operation, which can lead to advancement within public works or materials management fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Salt Shed position, and why are they important?

To work effectively in a salt shed operation, you need a solid understanding of material handling, basic inventory management, and equipment operation, often acquired through on-the-job experience or relevant forklift certifications. Familiarity with machinery such as front-end loaders, skid steers, and computerized inventory tracking systems is highly valued. Attention to detail, teamwork, and reliability are important soft skills, as they ensure safe and efficient operations during high-demand periods. These skills are essential for maintaining orderly storage, timely distribution, and safety when handling large volumes of road salt, particularly during winter maintenance season.

Job description

About Reverb
Reverb is the largest online marketplace dedicated to buying and selling new, used, and vintage musical instruments. Since launching in 2013, Reverb has grown into a vibrant community of buyers and sellers all over the world. By focusing on inspiring content, price transparency, musician-focused e-commerce tools, a music-savvy customer service team, and more, Reverb has created an online destination where the global music community can connect over the perfect piece of music gear.
We love working at Reverb because we're making the world more musical-through our marketplace and through Reverb Gives, which provides musical instruments to youth music education programs. We were named a "Best Place to Work" by Built in Chicago and a "Top Workplace'' by the Chicago Tribune.
About the role
Our teams are highly collaborative and empowered to make a better experience for our customers. We rely on our ability to work as a team and incorporate different perspectives in order to ship meaningful and impactful software to our users. The team builds experiences that inspire users with gear they'll love and keep them coming back. We are a collaborative, inclusive team of designers, backend, frontend, and native mobile engineers with all the skills necessary to build & ship.
This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Chicago, IL. Local employees meet weekly on Tuesday at our Salt Shed office, and we all come together for quarterly org onsites and our yearly Reverbfest.
Responsibilities
  • As an iOS engineer, you will be responsible for pushing our codebase forward, shipping quickly and safely, and helping us on our most impactful projects.
  • You'll be working on both building great features for our users and the underlying platform.
  • Our app is 90% Swift and we are investing heavily in SwiftUI. We ship weekly and invest in testing & automation to enable that. To build with confidence, we extensively use remote configuration, feature flags, and declarative, server-driven APIs.
  • We use a lot of concurrency; hopefully you like or are interested in that!
  • We own our pipeline and release management

Requirements
  • At Reverb, you'll be more than an engineer; you'll be a product owner who works with partners to identify the right tradeoffs and build what our users need.
  • We ask that candidates express interest in Reverb's mission, prepare to work on a collaborative team, and adopt a growth mentality. We also ask that you have at least 2 to 3 years of iOS experience, outside of learning environments, working on backend-dependent apps.
Additional Information
Remote-eligible roles (as indicated in the location header of each job description) are available in all U.S. states except Alaska and Hawaii. Remote roles are currently only available within the U.S. unless otherwise specified in the specific job description.
Reverb offers a comprehensive total rewards package that combines base, bonus, and an array of benefits. Some of our key benefits include but are not limited to the following:
  • 100% paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee, spouse or domestic partner, and all eligible dependents. Medical coverage includes gender affirming care.
  • Life, AD&D, and supplemental long-and short-term disability insurance
  • A matching 401(k)
  • A generous PTO policy that includes vacation, sick/mental health days plus 11 paid holidays and two floating holidays
  • Professional development and continued learning opportunities through access to mentoring, 1:1 coaching, and platforms like Skillsoft
  • 18 weeks of gender-neutral parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child
  • Up to $25,000 reimbursement of adoption and/or surrogacy related expenses
  • Paid sabbatical program
  • Annual work/life stipend
  • Ways to give back to your community through volunteer time off

At Reverb, we believe that an equitable and inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds can come, stay and thrive makes us a more relevant and resilient company. Reverb is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ancestry, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital or family status, disability, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or any other legally protected status. We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided a reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform crucial job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. If, due to a disability, you need an accommodation during any part of the interview process, please let your recruiter know.
We know that the impostor syndrome and confidence gap are real. Please do not hesitate to apply!
The pay range for this role is:
115,000 - 149,000 USD per year (US)
