What are some common challenges faced by sales executives and how are they typically addressed?

Sales Executives often face challenges such as meeting ambitious targets, handling client objections, and adapting to changing market conditions. To address these, many organizations provide ongoing sales training, access to CRM tools for better pipeline management, and regular team strategy sessions to share best practices. Collaboration with marketing and product teams is also key, ensuring Sales Executives have up-to-date information and resources to effectively engage prospects and close deals. Support from experienced managers and clearly defined performance metrics help create a supportive environment for overcoming obstacles and achieving success.

What does a sales executive do?

A sales executive oversees sales for a business and, along with other executives, develops sales targets for a company’s products or services and performance goals for the sales department. In this role, you are in charge of hiring and training new salespeople, developing long-lasting client relationship strategies, and seeking out prospective new customers. You provide your sales team with leads and monitor their progress as they make contact and turn them into new clients. When not performing those duties, a sales executive analyzes sales data and prepares budgets.

How much can a sales executive make?

A sales executive's earnings typically include a base salary plus commissions or bonuses based on sales performance. In many regions, the total annual income ranges from $40,000 to over $100,000, depending on experience, industry, and sales targets. High performers with strong negotiation skills can earn significantly more through commissions.

What is a sales executive?

Sales Executives are professionals responsible for generating revenue for a company by selling its products or services. They identify potential customers, establish relationships, and negotiate deals to close sales. Sales Executives often set and achieve sales targets, conduct market research, and provide after-sales support to ensure customer satisfaction. Their role requires strong communication, persuasion, and organizational skills, as well as a good understanding of the market and their company's offerings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales executive, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Executive, you need strong negotiation skills, product knowledge, and a proven track record in sales, often supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce, sales analytics tools, and sometimes certification in sales methodologies is typically required. Outstanding communication, resilience, and relationship-building abilities set top performers apart in this role. These skills are crucial for consistently meeting sales targets, building customer trust, and driving business growth in a competitive market.

Job description

SkyTide Group

About SkyTide Group

SkyTide Group is a managed IT services provider focused on helping businesses build stable, secure, and scalable technology environments. We partner with clients who value consistency, trust, long-term alignment, and business outcomes.

Our team supports organizations through managed IT support, cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery, Microsoft 365 management, cloud support, standardization, and technology leadership. We are not just looking to sell IT services. We are looking to help clients reduce risk, improve operations, protect their business, and use technology as a stronger foundation for growth.

Our Core Values

  • Dependable: We follow through and do what we say we will do.
  • Team Player: We work together, support each other, and share ownership of outcomes.
  • Helpful: We look for ways to make things easier, clearer, and better for our clients and teammates.
  • Continuous Improvement: We challenge ourselves to improve our process, service, communication, and results.

About the Role

SkyTide Group is looking for an Account Executive to help grow our client base by identifying, qualifying, and developing new business opportunities with companies that are a strong fit for our managed IT and cybersecurity services.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys consultative selling, asking strong discovery questions, building trust with business owners and decision-makers, and connecting technology solutions to real business needs.

The Account Executive will be responsible for prospecting, discovery, pipeline development, HubSpot documentation, proposal support, and helping guide qualified prospects through SkyTide’s sales process.

You do not need to be a technical engineer, but you do need to be curious, coachable, organized, process-driven, and willing to learn how technology impacts business operations.

What You Will Do

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with companies that align with SkyTide’s ideal client profile.
  • Prospect into targeted industries and accounts using phone, email, LinkedIn, referrals, and other approved outreach methods.
  • Conduct consultative discovery conversations to uncover business pain, technology challenges, risk, growth needs, support gaps, and decision-making criteria.
  • Qualify prospects based on fit, urgency, business impact, technology needs, budget, timing, and decision-maker involvement.
  • Position SkyTide’s offerings around business value, not just technical features.
  • Align client needs to SkyTide offerings including Managed IT Support, Cybersecurity Essentials, Backup and Disaster Recovery, Microsoft 365 management, cloud support, and standardization.
  • Use HubSpot consistently to document activities, contacts, company records, deal stages, call notes, follow-up tasks, next steps, and opportunity details.
  • Follow SkyTide’s sales process from prospecting to discovery, solution alignment, proposal, decision validation, and close.
  • Partner with internal SkyTide leadership to prepare for client conversations, assessments, proposals, and next steps.
  • Build trust with prospects by asking strong questions, listening carefully, and clearly connecting SkyTide’s value to their business goals.
  • Maintain consistent activity levels, pipeline hygiene, and follow-up discipline.
  • Participate in coaching, call review, pipeline meetings, sales training, and continuous improvement conversations.
  • Represent SkyTide professionally in the market as a dependable, helpful, and value-focused technology partner.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means building a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities and helping SkyTide win clients who are the right fit for our service model.

Performance will be measured by prospecting activity and consistency, quality of discovery conversations, qualified opportunities created, pipeline value and progression, new client acquisition, revenue growth, HubSpot accuracy and process adherence, follow-up completion and sales stage discipline, ability to position SkyTide’s value clearly, quality of client fit and long-term alignment, and participation in coaching and continuous improvement.

This role is not just about activity. It is about creating the right conversations with the right companies and helping them understand why SkyTide is the right long-term partner.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in B2B sales, account executive work, business development, inside sales, outside sales, or consultative sales.
  • Ability to prospect, follow up, and create new conversations.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Comfort asking open-ended discovery questions.
  • Ability to understand business pain and connect it to value.
  • Strong attention to detail and CRM discipline.
  • Willingness to follow a defined sales process.
  • Ability to manage multiple prospects and opportunities at once.
  • Confidence speaking with business owners, executives, office managers, operations leaders, and technical contacts.
  • Interest in technology, cybersecurity, managed IT services, business operations, and client success.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with a small team.
  • A mindset focused on learning, improvement, accountability, and results.

Helpful Experience

  • Managed IT services, MSP, cybersecurity, SaaS, telecom, business services, or technology sales.
  • Experience selling to small and mid-sized businesses.
  • HubSpot CRM experience.
  • Microsoft 365 familiarity.
  • Experience with consultative selling, value selling, solution selling, Challenger, Sandler, Action Selling, or similar sales frameworks.
  • Experience selling services where trust, relationship-building, and long-term partnership matter.

Who This Role Is Right For

  • Enjoys talking with people and building relationships.
  • Likes asking questions and learning how businesses operate.
  • Is comfortable being held accountable to activity, pipeline, and revenue goals.
  • Believes CRM documentation matters.
  • Wants to sell value, not just price.
  • Is curious about technology and willing to learn.
  • Can handle rejection and keep moving forward.
  • Likes working in a smaller company where individual work directly matters.
  • Wants to help shape and improve the sales process as SkyTide grows.

Who This Role Is Not Right For

  • Does not like prospecting or outbound sales.
  • Prefers to work without process or CRM discipline.
  • Avoids follow-up or administrative documentation.
  • Only wants to sell based on price.
  • Are uncomfortable learning basic technology concepts.
  • Struggles with accountability, coaching, or feedback.
  • Prefers a highly layered corporate environment with narrow responsibilities.

Why Join SkyTide

At SkyTide, you will have the opportunity to help build a scalable growth engine inside a company that values clients, trust, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with leadership, learn directly from experienced owners, and play an important role in helping new clients understand how the right technology partner can improve their business.

This is an opportunity to be part of a growing team where your effort, ideas, and results can make a visible impact.

Compensation

SkyTide offers a competitive compensation structure that includes base salary plus performance-based earning opportunities. Final compensation will be based on experience, role expectations, and mutually agreed upon performance goals.
