Job description

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
The Sales Associate is directly responsible for selling used vehicles at dealership volume and customer satisfaction standards.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.    Realize that business is built on customer satisfaction and devote himself/herself to guaranteeing satisfaction to customers.
2.    Determine each customer’s vehicle needs by asking questions and listening.
3.    Demonstrate used vehicles (includes test drives).
4.    Deliver used vehicles to customers.  This process ensures that the customer understands the vehicle’s operating feature, warranty and paperwork, and it lays the foundation for customer loyalty.
5.    Attend sales meetings.
6.    Maintain an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business and contributes to customer satisfaction.
7.    Maintain a prospect development system.
8.    Keep abreast of new products, features, accessories, etc., and their benefits to customers.
9.    Establish personal income goals that are consistent with dealership standards of productivity and devise a strategy to meet those goals.
10.    Report to the Used Car Manager regarding objectives, planned activities, review and analyses.
11.    Review and analyze actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively.
12.    Understand the terminology of the automobile business and keep abreast of technological changes in the product.
13.    Carry out sales, customer service and job performance.
14.    Introduce customers to service department personnel to emphasize to customers the quality and efficiency of the dealership’s service operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and shop environments and is regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, noise, heat, and outdoor elements. Work also includes movement around and in vehicles. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to lift/carry at least 50 lbs.


POSITION TYPE:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Saturday from 7am to 6pm. Must be able to work 8 hours a day and will be given a regular day off.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
1.    Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
2.    Excellent communication skills.
3.    Know and understand the federal, state and local laws which govern retail auto sales.
4.    Must follow Company safety policies and practices, and immediately report any and all accidents to a Manager or Supervisor.
5.    Must be legally and technically able to safely operate company and customer-owned vehicles.  Seat belts are required to be worn 100% of the time while operating any company or customer-owned vehicles.
6.    Must be insurable by insurance company.
7.    Ability to sell a minimum quota according to dealership standards.
8.    Take all factory tests and become a certified salesperson.
9.    Certification sales professionals and passing grades on all in house tests.
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

1.    HS diploma or GED equivalent.
2.    Must have a valid in-state driver’s license and have and maintain an acceptable, safe driving record.
3.    Prior experience as a car sales associate a plus.
