ASL Interpreter
Washington, DC
Looking for Part-Time and Full time employees.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide accurate simultaneous ASL- English interpretation.
  • Maintain adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct:
    CPC - Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (rid.org)
  • Team professionally and provide peer mentorship to fellow interpreters at the site.
  • Study clients' roles and vocabulary to get up to speed quickly in a fast-paced, highly technical environment requiring sensitive stakeholder management at all levels.
  • Render services as part of a contract team supporting NAVSEA at the Washington Navy Yard (WNY). Occasionally provide services at other sites within 50 miles of WNY.
  • Deliver support in-person and occasionally virtually, with potential for domestic and foreign travel.

Requirements:
  • 7+ years of specialized interpreting experience in federal settings.
  • 7+ years in staff interpreter roles, ongoing roles (2-5 days per week), or Designated interpreter roles for clients who hold management positions.
  • 5+ years certified experience in technical environments.
  • Strong ASL-to-English interpreting skills.
  • Experience with solving complex ethical issues involving consideration of multiple issues and job areas
  • US Citizen with Secret Security Clearance

Preferred:
  • BA/BS or MA/MS Degree in ASL Interpretation
  • Familiarity with and strong receptive skills for clients who use Signing Exact English (SEE).
  • 7+ years of experience interpreting STEM content in cleared DoD settings.
