Job description

The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Facilities, Engineering, and Construction (FEC) organization is looking for an Electrical Safety Engineer to lead the safe design and operation of Solar and EV Infrastructure at Amazon. This role also supports the team working on systems involving Highly Hazardous Chemicals (HHCs)-including hydrogen, lithium-ion, ammonia, and compressed natural gas-across our global operations.
You'll work across engineering, operations, and construction teams to integrate Electrical Safety requirements from design through execution. Your work will shape safety outcomes at a global scale and ensure that new technologies meet strict internal and external standards. This is an opportunity to lead, influence, and innovate in one of the most dynamic safety engineering environments in the world.
This role is grounded in technical leadership. You'll be responsible for aligning risk controls with best practices and regulatory frameworks, including but not limited to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Risk Management Plan (RMP), NFPA 70E, IEC 61511, IEC 61010, NEC Article 690.
Key job responsibilities
1. Evaluate risk on new and existing electrical systems and develop mitigation plans in accordance with OSHA 1910.119, IEC 61511, ISO12100 and ANSI B11, NEC practices
2. Interpret and apply regulations, codes, and relevant standards as applicable from design to execution for Solar and EV Infrastructure
3. Advise partner engineering and operations teams on regulations, regulatory compliance concerns, and good engineering practices in relation to equipment design, process control, electrical safety system operation and Maintenance.
4. Participate in new standard developments with Engineering, Injury Prevention Specialists, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (RME), Operations, and other key stakeholders
5. Review and approve new designs, develop tailored processes to evaluate risk and develop mitigation protocol and processes.
6. Manage projects that require certifications and comply with local, national and international regulations
7. Knowledge and understanding of equipment certification requirements (CE, UL, etc.) and experience working with NRTLs
8. Integration of control and safety systems into the design of new and existing equipment

About the team
Our Mission: The Global PSE team's mission is to ensure the safe design and reliable operation of facilities that contain Solar, EV Infrastructure or use Highly Hazardous Chemicals (HHCs). Our mission is to provide the necessary support so Amazon can achieve the 2040 Climate Pledge responsibly and in a manner that safeguards the safety of our associates and the community at large.
Program Strategy: The team's focus is on building a safety program that reduces the risk from Solar, EV infrastructure of HHC's to as low as reasonably possible by eliminating risk through prevention through design.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- 6+ years of electrical safety engineering experience while working in Manufacturing, Solar or EV infrastructure industries with design/installation/commissioning.
- Skilled in identifying and evaluating risk across Solar infrastructure, EV infrastructure and other electrical systems with the aid of electrical diagrams.
- Experience of developing and reviewing product specifications, RFP, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- Experience of working with the application of certification bodies that comply with local, national and international electrical safety regulations and standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in electrical engineering with 10+ years of experience in Manufacturing/Solar/EV infrastructure industries. CSME or other functional safety certification preferred
- Experience with development of risk assessment methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative/FMEA) tailored to assess risk to safety instrumentation system for solar systems, EV Infrastructure at system and component level.
- Experience of developing models to analyze risk with the use of data collection methodologies like SCADA/ PLC or DCS historian configurations.
- Experience with safety design and risk assessment of AC and DC distribution system, UPS, inverters, electrical switch gear, power distribution units, BESS, VFD's, automatic/static transfer switches, etc.
- Knowledge of international Standards such as EU Machinery Directive, ISO, ANSI, OSHA, NFPA, IEC, NEC standards, and NRTL.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
