Job description

With over 45 years of experience, AA Asphalting LLC has become the Northwest's leading asphalt & concrete restoration provider. Our customers include public utilities, general contractors, government agencies, private businesses, etc. and have come to expect quality workmanship at competitive prices. We take great pride in the service and quality of work we provide to our customers and are searching for a Safety Manager to join our Sumner team!

The Safety Manager oversees all safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing programs that reduce or eliminate vehicle accidents, occupational hazards, workplace injuries, and financial losses, while promoting a strong safety culture focused on preventing workplace incidents and minimizing overall risk. The Safety Manager provides strong leadership and direction in partnership with Operations to ensure safety standards are consistently upheld, while reinforcing safe behaviors across all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provides coaching and leadership to employees, foremen, superintendents and leadership in the design, implementation and performance monitoring of safety management systems and programs.
  • Develops and implements strategies for reducing and preventing occupational injuries, vehicle incidents and liability claims. Ensures safety programs are in compliance with OSHA, WISHA, DOSH, FMCSA, DOT, etc.
  • Investigates all near-miss, vehicle, equipment & property accidents, utility line damage, and workplace injuries including incident and accident investigation, reporting, establishing root cause and corrective action, and any follow up on safety performance issues.
  • Oversees injury and claims management as needed to include developing injury/illness treatment protocol; staying abreast of latest status of injuries and claims and management of OSHA recordkeeping.
  • Conducts jobsite safety inspections, observes crew members for proper use of PPE and adherence to safety rules, mentors and provides coaching to employees on any unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors, and hazard observations.
  • Responds to safety, health and environmental complaints and issues and OSHA consultation and compliance.
  • Investigates and responds to complaints, incidents and accidents from customers, government agencies, the general public, etc.
  • Oversees and helps coordinate the delivery of safety training programs for leadership, superintendents, and field employees when required and develops new safety training programs as needed.
  • Administers CMV training program for all Company drivers in compliance with federal, state and DOT compliance rules and regulations.
  • Oversees and administers the Drug & Alcohol Testing program in accordance with company policies and FMCSA requirements.
  • Conducts Safety Orientation and Hazard Communication training, and maintains training schedule for CPR & First Aid, Flagging & Traffic Control, and annual hearing testing.
  • Participates as a member of the Safety Advocate team and works with leadership to assess damage and corrective action.
  • Travels to field locations and leads weekly safety meetings.
  • Leads and develops the safety team by setting clear expectations, reinforcing accountability, providing training, and giving positing feedback in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Maintains and promotes Company's philosophy and core values of Respect, Trust, and Create.
  • Performs other responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications 

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively promote a strong safety culture
  • Knowledge of OSHA, WISHA, FMCSA, DOT, DOL and other federal, state and local health and safety laws
  • Certified in safety training courses (i.e. OSHA 30, Safety Management, etc.)
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to stay organized and continuously meet deadlines
  • Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedures manuals, etc.
  • Must be available to be on call for emergencies
  • Ability to travel to various worksites
