CORPORATE PROCESS SAFETY ENGINEER
Role Summary
This position will continuously improve Process Safety related activities to reduce risk and improve viability for Pilot Chemical Company’s operations regarding Environmental, Health amp; Safety (EHS) compliance. They will provide guidance, direct and implement Process Safety strategies to ensure the attainment of Pilot Chemical Company’s short- and long-term Process Safety improvement goals and current written programs. This role will also support and foster the Integrated Management System (IMS) Policy and build and help sustain a “Safety First” culture.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the Process Safety Management (PSM) safety reviews of processes and projects.
  • Define Process Safety Metrics that drive continuous improvement of the Process Safety program.
  • Manage Process Safety Information (PSI) for all sites and act as gate keeper of information to ensure all documented information is centralized, available, and easily retrievable.
  • Manage and participate in the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) program to include a standardized amp; consistent facilitation of PHAs, site best practice amp; knowledge sharing, and timely completion of CAPAs.
  • Develop, own, and continuously improve Pilot Chemical Process Safety Risk Based Management System and conduct annual Management Review of the RBMS.
  • Manage tolerable vs intolerable risk matrix to help reduce risks by instituting ALARP and improving communication and decision making.
  • Provide support for all site Process Safety improvement strategies within Pilot Chemical Company to include but not limited to Mechanical Integrity, resolution of Audit Findings, and Risk Reduction projects.
  • Provide input on Reliability on the asset integrity program/scope and Project Engineering on capital planning
  • Act as a Liaison for manufacturing sites to enhance site sharing of best practices.
  • Responsible for developing Process Safety training and managing training through the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Prepare draft companywide Process Safety programs and finalize them after feedback in alignment with Manufacturing that are on time and technically correct to move Pilot towards common programs that are Suitable, Adequate and Effective (SAE).
  • Work with Operations and Project Engineers to review all project scopes of work over 75K to ensure Process Safety is being considered in these projects.
  • Responsible for drafting and final submission of all corporate Process Safety documents.
  • Assist with activities in complying with the Responsible Care® Management System.
Required Competencies
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or another relevant field.
  • At least 7-10 years of professional experience. Process Safety experience in a chemical manufacturing or industrial environment required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Process Safety Management practices to include 10 Core Principals and Process Safety Elements.
  • Team player with proven interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Support our Change Management program and model 5 key behaviors of Customer Focus, Empowerment, Quick amp; Nimble, Innovative and Teamwork amp; Collaboration.
  • Travel up to 30% of the time.
Preferred Competencies
  • Advanced course work in process safety, chemistry, engineering or business with chemical industry experience.
  • Experience with continuous improvement activities, i.e., Kaizen, Plan – Do – Check – Act (PDCA), six sigma, etc.
  • ISO 9001, 14001 and/or Responsible Care® Management Systems (RCMS) experience.
