Job Summary:
The Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs that ensure a safe, compliant, and healthy workplace. This role oversees safety policies, risk assessments, emergency preparedness, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with organizational standards. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and skilled in influencing cross-functional teams to strengthen safety culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Leadership
  • Lead the development and deployment of safety strategies, programs, and initiatives across two local facilities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through training, coaching, communication, and employee engagement.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on safety matters and advise leadership on policies and improvements.

Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and building regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA, local fire codes).
  • Maintain required safety documentation, permits, and regulatory filings.
  • Responsible for local, state, and federal reporting, as well as internal reporting as needed.
  • Liaise with NA Compliance leader to support regulatory agencies and manage external inspections or audits.
  • Ownership of Workers Compensation investigations, safety risk assessments, corrective actions, continuous improvement plans and time off impact in collaboration with HR and Operations Management.
  • Lead the RH Aero Safety Council and build a culture of safety within the local facilities.

Risk Management & Prevention
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses.
  • Oversee incident investigations with cross-functional team, root-cause analysis, corrective action planning, and follow-up execution.
  • Implement effective risk mitigation strategies-including lockout/tagout, hazardous materials management, ergonomics, and contractor safety programs.

Emergency Preparedness
  • Develop and maintain emergency action plans, evacuation procedures, and crisis response protocols.
  • Coordinate drills (fire, severe weather, workplace violence response, etc.) and collaborate with security and emergency services.
  • Ensure facility systems (alarms, sprinklers, safety equipment) are functional and regularly tested.

Training & Continuous Improvement
  • Deliver or coordinate safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Track safety metrics and use data to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in workplace safety, facilities safety, or EHS leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, environmental regulations, and building safety codes.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and leading training programs.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Excel and Power point.

Preferred
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHMM, CFM).
  • Certified trainer on safety equipment and warehouse equipment such as lifting and transporting equipment
  • Experience with ISO 45001 or similar safety management systems.
  • Background in manufacturing, warehousing, or multi-site facility operations.
  • Ability to work to a deadline and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to influence others through the employment of sound judgment.
  • Self-motivation, strong attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.
