Job Overview:

The Site Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting a safe & healthy work environment, responsible for promoting continuous improvement of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) systems that result in the reduction of incidents and ensure regulatory compliance. This position is also responsible for assisting with developing & directing the implementation of safety programs and assuring management takes actions to improve employee safety. This position will work directly with other project-level functional leads (e.g., Journeymen, Service Technicians) to assist them in integrating and/or addressing the applicable safety/health requirements in our work products and activities.ย 

Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks (previously named Roles, Responsibilities and Tasks):

  • Conduct safety assessments/inspections of projects under construction to monitor and ensure compliance with safety/health requirements including contractual commitments, laws, regulations and the projectโ€™s site specific environmental, safety & health plans. A strong emphasis will be on promoting and improving the companies โ€œSafety leading measuresโ€ ย 
  • Collaborate with management to develop, prepare, and implement environmental, safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Assist the Safety & Risk manager with development of Method of Procedure (MOP) and critical activity plans.ย 
  • Conduct investigations into employee or sub-contractor injuries, motor vehicle accidents, spills, discharges, theft, vandalism, property damages and develop written reports to document, including root cause analysis.
  • As directed by the Safety & Risk Manager conduct safety & compliance training for supervisors & field employees.
  • Provide comprehensive written reports to document site visits, activities and incidents as needed. ย  ย 
  • Perform โ€œCompetent personโ€ responsibilities to stop operations and activities that expose staff or equipment to dangerous conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (previously named Qualifications):

  • 5+ yearsโ€™ safety experience in a construction setting. Working knowledge of injury prevention, compliance, and risk reduction techniques. Electrical trade experience preferred ย 
  • Must possess OSHA 30 construction certificate valid within 5 years.ย 
  • Preferred if CHSTย or higher safety certification or attainable within 1 year. ย 
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations as applied to construction and general industry.ย 
  • First Aid, CPR & AED certifications, must be willing to lead in an emergency event.ย 
  • Competent Person: Electrical safety-NFPA 70E, Excavation, Fall protection and Confined space.
  • Self-driven, willing to work alone or as part of a team on assigned tasks and initiatives.
  • Ability to work split shifts, overtime, weekends and travel as needed.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability including to include Microsoft applications; Word, Excel, Power Point and other applications as needed.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, supervisory and leadership skills.

Physical Requirements:ย 

  • Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms at waist level and below the waist; and work in limited space.
  • Regularly required to talk in order to communicate detailed and accurate information.
  • Regularly required to hear with or without correction in order to receive and interpret detailed information and instructions.
  • Regularly required to sit for long and short periods at a time at a desk.
  • Regularly required to walk for long and short distances in order to accomplish job tasks.
  • Regularly required to reach: ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) including reaching in front of body, at shoulder level.
  • Ability to see with or without correction. ย Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
