Job Summary
GENERALDESCRIPTION
The Cafe Assistant reports directly to the Gator Café Manager. This position is responsible for assisting The Manager and Cook in all daily operations of the Gator Café.
This is a salaried, part time position working 20 hours per week.
Duties/Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Cleaning of the Café which includes but is not limited to sweeping, mopping, wiping down counters, cleaning the refrigerator, and washing dishes.

  • Operating the Café register and counting back money.

  • Assist Café staff in preparation of food orders.

  • Ensure Get-and-Go cooler is stocked with ready-to-buy items.

  • Answer phone calls and take orders.

  • Must be able to obtain a food handler's certification and be able to renew every 2 years.

  • Assist with all catering orders, including preparation and delivery to various buildings on campus.

  • Provide administrative support to the Gator Café Manager as needed.

OTHERJOBFUNCTIONS
  • Perform other related duties as they may be assigned.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to communicate courteously and effectively with faculty, staff, and clientele. Experience in food handling and preparation preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of food preparation, food storage, and sanitation regulations. Knowledge of banqueting, reception, and formal catering. Knowledge of cleaning methods and materials. Ability to read and understand, or to listen to and act upon written and oral instructions. Ability to adhere to prescribed agency routines; to write effectively; to learn assigned tasks readily. Ability to analyze work problems and recommend solutions; to accept direction and supervision, and to work effectively with co-workers and guests using the Gator Café.
Supplemental Information
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires constant walking, standing, and seeing. Requires frequent stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 50pounds.
Requires infrequent sitting, climbing, and sorting.

This position is security-sensitive and there by subject to the provisions of the Texas Education
Code§51.215.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal café/food preparation environment. This is a salaried, part time position working 20 hours per week.
