What is a rust?

A Rust job typically involves developing software using the Rust programming language, which is known for its memory safety, performance, and concurrency features. Rust developers work on system programming, web assembly, backend services, and embedded systems. Many Rust jobs are in industries requiring high-performance and secure applications, such as finance, blockchain, and networking. Employers look for proficiency in Rust, knowledge of software development best practices, and experience with related tools and frameworks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the rust position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rust Developer, you need strong programming abilities in Rust, a solid understanding of systems programming concepts, and typically a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like Cargo, Git, and CI/CD pipelines, as well as knowledge of platforms such as Linux, is often expected. Excellent problem-solving, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help developers excel when working on complex software projects within teams. These skills are crucial for building robust, high-performance applications while ensuring maintainability and scalability in demanding technology environments.

What are the most common challenges faced by rust developers in their day-to-day work?

Rust Developers often encounter challenges related to borrowing and ownership concepts, which are core features that ensure memory safety but can also make debugging and designing programs more difficult for those new to the language. Additionally, as Rust is still relatively young compared to some other languages, developers may face limited third-party library support or need to contribute to open-source tools themselves. However, working in teams allows for knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving, making it easier to overcome these obstacles. Embracing a growth mindset and participating in the active Rust community can help developers quickly adapt and thrive in this evolving field.

Job description

Qrypt'smission is to protect the world's data and restore privacy.Qrypthardens cybersecurity and future-proofsencryption against quantum attacks byeliminatingkey transmission.Qrypt'sunique technology independently generates symmetric keys at multiple endpoints for critical workflows today. We are a passionate team of engineers, physicists, and cryptographers committed to transforming the way the world safeguards data and communications!

Qryptis looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to own the services behind our quantum security products. You will lead the design and development of backend software — primarily in Rust — that moves quantum entropy and keys, powers our entropy-as-a-service platform, and makes our appliances work reliably and securely at scale. You will use AI-assisted development tooling as a core part of how you work, own the correctness and quality of what ships, and help set how the team engineers in an AI-native way.

What you'll do
  • Lead the design, development, and testing of backend services and APIs, primarily in Rust, with some C++ and Python.
  • Own significant parts of the backend end to end: architecture, implementation, reliability, and performance.
  • Make and document design tradeoffs; raise the bar on code quality, testing, and review across the team.
  • Work close to the metal on the software that delivers quantum entropy and keys reliably and securely.
  • Use AI-assisted and agentic development tooling to accelerate your work while owning the correctness and quality of everything you ship.
  • Help shape how the team adopts AI-assisted development (instruction conventions, review standards) as the tooling matures.
  • Develop deep domain understanding (quantum random number generation, cryptography, network security) to architect andvalidateour products.
  • Mentor other engineers and collaborate across hardware, product, and engineering to ship end-to-end.
What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Scienceor a related technical field, and/or relevant work experience.

  • Workingproficiencywith C++ and Python.
  • Strong command of backend architecture: APIs, services, concurrency, reliability, performance, and Linux.
  • Fluency with AI and agent-assisted development, and the judgment to apply it where it adds real leverage — reviewing, correcting, and taking full ownership of AI-generated work. This is core to how weoperateatQryptand is expectedofeveryone here.

Benefits & Perks
  • Competitive Pay & Equity participation
  • Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage
