Job description

SUMMARY This position is a dual role as the Mascot Performer and Mascot Handler. Both roles are expected to be the spirited embodiment of our college, captivating audiences and fostering enthusiasm and excitement at events on campus and in the community. You'll represent Gateway Technical College with energy, charisma, and professionalism while wearing our beloved Rudy the Red Hawk mascot costume.

Being a member of the Rudy the Red Hawk mascot team is a minimum one-semester commitment. As Rudy the Red Hawk, you will participate in various Gateway, high school and community events. You must be willing to attend events during all three semesters, as well as during winter and spring breaks, as needed and available.

This position will work a flexible and varied schedule; must be available some nights and weekends; paid via a stipend based on hours worked for any event. RESPONSIBILITIES Character Embodiment: Portray our mascot character with enthusiasm and authenticity, embodying its personality traits, gestures, and mannerisms. Event Representation: Attend various events, including community gatherings, and promotional functions, engaging and interacting with attendees to create a lively and memorable experience.

Performance Excellence: Maintain high energy levels throughout appearances, executing routine and spontaneous interactions to entertain and engage audiences. Brand Ambassadorship: Act as a positive ambassador for Gateway, upholding its values and conveying its messaging through non-verbal communication and engaging interactions. Costume Management: Responsible for the proper care, handling, and upkeep of the mascot costume, including changing in and out of the attire and ensuring its cleanliness and maintenance.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with event organizers, handlers, and support staff to coordinate appearances and ensure a seamless and successful event presence. WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION Required: 18 years or older Reliable transportation (retrieve costume, travel to and from event, and return the costume OR a combination) Physically able to fit within the size requirements of the mascot costume Ability to wear costume for an extended period of time Ability to walk, stand, and perform for duration of event Independence, reliability, confidentiality, respect and integrity Ability to communicate verbally/non-verbally and interact positively with diverse audiences How to Apply: To be considered for a mascot actor position, you will need to fill out an application online.
