Job Description
DeAngelo Contracting Services (DCS) is seeking a motivated and skilled CDL Hi-Rail Technician with strong ethics, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety. This is a full-time seasonal position with start and end dates depending on weather conditions and workload.
As a Hi-Rail Technician, you'll play a key role in spraying herbicide along railroad tracks while maintaining trucks and spray equipment. This role offers challenging, rewarding work with travel, training, and opportunities to grow in the vegetation management industry.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and complete assigned jobs/contracts.
  • Apply herbicides (weed, grass, and brush control) along railroads.
  • Mix tanks and calibrate spray equipment.
  • Perform daily truck inspections, routine maintenance, and system repairs.
  • Maintain accurate daily/weekly records.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Communicate with customers and address complaints professionally.
  • Identify vegetation types and understand proper application methods, chemicals, and safety requirements.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 21+ years of age or older.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, and federal background check for railroad property access.
  • Valid CDL (Class A or B) with tanker and air brake endorsements.
  • 5 years of total clean driving experience required.
  • Must be able to operate manual transmission trucks (no automatic restrictions).
  • Ability to travel away from home for 4-6 weeks at a time (DCS covers hotel accommodations and per diem).
  • Flexible schedule:
    • Most work is Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm, with 10-12-hour shifts.
    • Some weekend or night work may be required.
    • Hours may vary with weather and workload.
  • Occasionally travel to offices during breaks for routine truck/equipment maintenance.
  • Must comply with company drug and alcohol policy.

Training Provided
  • Paid training in vegetation identification, chemical usage, safety procedures, application methods, and equipment operation/maintenance.
