Job description

Hachette Book Group is seeking a talented Royalty Analyst to support our Finance team!The Royalty Analyst is responsible for reviewing all new contracts acquired by Hachette Book Group that fall into their imprint assignments and inputting the relevant payment and royalty information into the royalty system. They are responsible for all contractual author advance payments, reviewing cycle royalty statements, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting. In addition, they will respond to our author and agent partners concerning royalty inquiries, which requires exceptional customer service skills.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, as they will need to work closely with departments all over the company, including editorial, contracts, and accounts payable. In total, the royalty department is responsible for approximately 18,000 agreements, and payouts totaling over $100 million annually. This position will report to a Royalty Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain royalty and contractual information in royalty system
  • Track and pay contractual obligations to authors
  • Review tax documents to ensure appropriate tax withholding for foreign payees
  • Investigate contractual discrepancies
  • Validate monthly financial data for month-end general ledger reporting
  • Assist in monthly financial close process
  • Review and process cycle royalties to ensure accuracy and timely payment
  • Resolve inquiries from editorial, contracts, accounts payable, sales, and other departments
  • Respond to Authors and Agents concerning advance and royalty queries
  • Monthly review of active ISBNs for new products to be entered into royalty system
  • Monthly review of scanned documents for contractual changes and payee/address updates
  • Review and enter semiannual intercompany sales data from UK sister companies
  • Assist our subrights accountant as needed
  • Assist the Royalty Director and other team members
  • Research and analyze data as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • 1-2 years' experience in an accounting/financial position
  • College Degree preferred
  • Ability to analyze and interpret contracts
  • Proficiency in Excel and ability to grasp new systems and procedures quickly and accurately
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) in both individual and group settings regardless of audience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Effective problem solving and research skills
  • Must be results driven and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively while also ensuring accuracy of work through attention to detail

This role is based in our New York office or Boston, MA office. Employees are expected to work on-site three days per week in accordance with our hybrid work model. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the office.

The compensation for this position is $55,500 for the New York Office and $51,100 for the Boston Office. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location - talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
