This structure helps interns better understand their strengths, interests, and the kinds of work environments they thrive in. By collaborating with diverse teams and tackling a range of projects, interns can make informed decisions about which career path aligns best with their skills and aspirations. Additionally, the networks built during rotations often lead to mentorship and future job opportunities within the company.

What is a rotational internship?

A rotational internship is a structured program where interns work in multiple departments or roles within an organization over a set period. This allows interns to gain exposure to different functions, develop a broad set of skills, and better understand how various teams collaborate. Rotational internships are especially common in large companies and are designed to help participants discover their career interests and strengths. These programs often include mentorship, training sessions, and performance feedback to support professional growth.

Position Description & Qualifications
Lawrence University of Wisconsin, a selective undergraduate liberal arts college and conservatory of music located in Appleton, Wisconsin, invites applications for two full-time tenure-track positions, at the rank of Assistant Professor of Psychology, to begin September 1, 2027. One position is in social psychology and the other position may be in one of the following areas: cognitive, biological, developmental or clinical/counseling psychology.
We seek individuals who are dedicated teachers passionate about working with undergraduates in a liberal arts setting, active and engaging scholars, and effective mentors for students from diverse backgrounds. Primary duties include: teaching, grading, advising and mentoring students; conducting research; leading occasional tutorials, supervising independent study projects and internships; assisting in curricular planning; and related departmental and institutional service. The teaching load is two courses per term (one course with 2 laboratory sections counts as a full load) for three ten-week terms a year, including participation in Lawrence's flagship First Year Studies program on rotation. The First Year Studies curriculum presents an interdisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts intended to support new students' fundamental skills as readers, writers, and thinkers.
Candidates are expected to lead undergraduate research projects and connect scholarship with teaching. Laboratory space and start-up funds are available.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. prior to the time of appointment (9/1/2027); ABD is acceptable for selection. For the social psychology position, the PhD must be in social psychology or closely related psychology subfield; for the second position, the Ph.D. must be in cognitive, biological, developmental, or clinical/counseling psychology or a closely related psychology subfield. Interested candidates should submit the following materials at: https://lawrence.peopleadmin.com : (1) a cover letter explaining your interest in Lawrence, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a teaching statement that includes your philosophy, teaching interests, information regarding how you will foster a truly engaged and supportive experience for undergraduates, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., syllabi, summary of teaching evaluations, etc.), (4) a research statement that includes a discussion of how you plan to engage undergraduates in research and how your research may be particularly suited to a liberal arts setting, and (5) a list of 3 references. Applications will be evaluated starting September 15, 2026.
