Department: IT Infrastructure
Location: Fully Remote (must be able to work Eastern or Central time hours)
Role Type: Contract - 9 months, with potential to extend to 12 months or longer.

Job Description
Under minimal supervision, the Senior System/Network Engineer is responsible for designing and maintaining systems that ensure acceptable availability, stability, and response time for customers. This includes systems spanning the data center, network, operating system, product development, mail server, application server, and groupware environments. The role carries significant ownership - from architecting infrastructure solutions to writing the security policies and procedures that govern them - and requires sound independent judgment when evaluating complex, variable technical problems.
This position also includes participation in a 24x7 on-call support rotation, as well as ownership of backup/restore testing and periodic disaster recovery (DR) plan testing. The Senior System/Network Engineer will work alongside other support groups on server-based applications, evaluate new technology solutions, and provide limited field supervision of technical objectives. Experienced engineers in this role are also expected to mentor and assist less experienced peers.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Designs and architects IT infrastructure solutions.
  • Designs networks, such as LAN, WAN, Internet, and/or data networks.
  • Proposes and implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting of concurrent and internally/externally reported system problems.
  • Writes environment security policies.
  • Writes system procedures, policies, and guidelines.
  • Participates in on-call 24x7 support rotation.
  • Manages and performs essential functions required for effective system backup and restore testing.
  • Manages and performs periodic recovery testing of DR plans.
  • May assist support groups with applications installed on various servers.
  • Evaluates and recommends technology solutions for potential purchase to drive enhancements and efficiencies.
  • Performs limited field supervision of technical objectives.
  • Assists and mentors less experienced peers.
Required Experience/Skills
  • Minimum of six to nine years of experience in systems/network administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues and work on complex, diverse projects requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Excellent knowledge of IT infrastructure concepts and principles.
  • Able to design and architect IT infrastructure systems.
  • Able to evaluate and recommend sound technology solutions.
  • Able to troubleshoot and resolve customer problems in a timely manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong customer interaction skills.
  • Able to work extended and/or flexible hours/shifts as business needs dictate.
  • Able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Able to travel occasionally, including overnight, as needed.
