Description

Fervo's Legal Rotational Development Program is a two-year development program for early-career attorneys looking to build a strong foundation as in-house counsel. Modeled after Fervo's successful Bedrock rotational program, participants complete two one-year rotations across different areas of the Legal team while working directly with experienced attorneys on substantive legal matters from day one.

Throughout the program, participants gain broad exposure to the legal issues that support a rapidly growing energy company, including commercial contracts, construction, finance, regulatory matters, land leasing and permitting, power markets, and compliance โ€“ based on Fervo's staffing needs and the participants background and interests. Each rotation is designed to develop practical legal judgment, strengthen business acumen, and prepare participants for long-term success as in-house counsel.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants may transition into a permanent attorney role on Fervo's Legal team, with final placement determined by business needs, participant performance, and rotational experiences.

Requirements

Two-year rotational program consisting of two one-year Legal rotations Full-time position based in Houston, Texas throughout both rotations (minimal travel to other offices) Relocation assistance is available for candidates moving to the Houston area Hybrid work schedule with regular in-office collaboration Target start date: September/October 2026 Structured mentorship from both a rotation manager and a senior Legal leader Defined pathway into a permanent Legal position upon successful completion of the program Responsibilities Legal Rotations Complete two one-year rotations across core Legal practice areas, including Commercial Contracts, Construction, Corporate Governance & Securities, Finance, Land & Regulatory, Power Markets, Litigation & Compliance, and other areas as business needs evolve Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and correspondence specific to the embedded business unit Manage discrete legal matters from intake through resolution under the supervision of experienced attorneys Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, summaries, presentations, and other work product to support business decisions Assist with commercial transactions, strategic initiatives, and legal projects supporting Fervo's continued growth Participate in internal discussions regarding legal risk assessment and practical business solutions Cross-Functional Partnership Partner closely with teams across Commercial Contracts, Construction, Corporate Governance & Securities, Finance, Land & Regulatory, Power Markets, Litigation & Compliance functions Provide practical, business-focused legal guidance while balancing commercial objectives and legal risk Attend cross-functional meetings and help identify legal considerations early in project planning Build strong relationships and subject-matter depth across the organization to better understand Fervo's business and operational priorities Professional Development Receive ongoing mentorship from both a rotation manager and a senior Legal sponsor Participate in regular coaching, performance feedback, and career development discussionsPursue relevant CLE courses and other professional development opportunities Develop the technical, business, and leadership skills necessary to become a successful in-house attorney Build toward a permanent Legal role at Fervo upon successful completion of the program Required Qualifications J.D. from an accredited law school Licensed and in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (Texas Bar admission is not required upon hire) 1โ€“3 years of legal experience following law school Excellent legal research, writing, drafting, and analytical skills Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment Demonstrated curiosity, ownership, sound judgment, and a desire to learn Cover letter and writing sample required. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or judicial clerkship Exposure to commercial contracts, corporate governance, regulatory, real estate, project finance, or other transactional legal matters Demonstrated interest in renewable energy, climate technology, or the energy transition Location Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX, with growing offices in Golden, CO; Reno, NV; Oakland, CA; and Salt Lake City, UT. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Houston office will be required. Relocation support is provided.
