Kingsford Manufacturing in Burnside, KY is proud to be a producer of 100% American-made charcoal briquets. Kingsford is the leading manufacturer of charcoal in the United States and our charcoal has become synonymous with authentic grilling, good food and most importantly, good times.
The Production Associate position will work in a dynamic team-based environment with the responsibility to safely produce the highest quality charcoal in the correct amount at the right cost. Tasks will include working safely at all times without exception, receiving raw materials, operating and maintaining high-speed packaging equipment, palletizing finished product, performing quality checks, implementing improvements, and contributing to the overall success of the plant.
The starting hourly rate is $21.11. Shift differential pay for 2nd shift is $0.65 and $0.85 for 3rd Shift.
The Production Associate will train on day shift for two weeks and then be placed in rotating openings in various departments and shifts based on business needs. This position will require work shift flexibility and the potential for required over time.
Example Shifts:
1st Shift: Wednesday - Sunday 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
2nd Shift: Friday - Tuesday 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM
3rd Shift: Sunday - Thursday 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Swing Shift:
Monday & Tuesday 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Wednesday & Thursday 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Friday 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
In this role, you will:
The Production Associate is responsible for the processing, manufacture, packaging, storing and distribution of charcoal briquettes. The Production Worker may be assigned to work in any of these areas of the plant:
  • Retort - In the Retort department we convert wood waste to char that goes into the charcoal briquettes
  • Briquetting - In the Manufacturing department we combine the char and other raw materials to create the charcoal briquette
  • Packaging - In the Packaging department we operate machines that package finished charcoal briquettes into bags
  • Warehouse - In the Warehouse we store finished bags of charcoal briquettes for shipments to customers or other warehouses

Essential Functions:
  • Press control buttons to activate machinery and equipment
  • Turn controls to adjust and regulate machine function as well as flow, speed, and temperature
  • Clean, oil, and make minor adjustments or repairs to machinery and equipment
  • Move materials, supplies, components, and finished products between storage and work areas
  • Pour, scoop, or dump specified ingredients into sections of machine prior to starting machines
  • Feed ingredients and products into machines by hand or conveyor and unload finished packaged product
  • Disassemble equipment to repair it or to replace parts
  • Monitor the production line, watching for problems such as pile-ups or jams or defects
  • Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, remove defective or substandard materials or products
  • Examine, measure, and weigh materials or products to verify conformance to standards
  • Package the product in the form in which it will be sent out
  • Stock and sort product for packaging or filling machine operation, and replenish packaging supplies
  • Operate palletizing equipment to wrap finished products on pallets for site warehouse storage or shipping and distribution
  • Stack finished package into truck using a forklift
  • Operate powered industrial trucks to move materials and products around the facility, including loading finished product into trailers
  • Ability to load and unload truck using a forklift
  • Adhere to all safety and quality standards and guidelines and repair and/or report unsafe conditions, near misses, and/or injuries in a timely manner.
  • Deliver against daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
  • Leverage technology as needed to stay informed (ex: daily review of email, production schedules, troubleshooting guides, job aides, etc.)
  • Enter data into computer and monitor various areas of instrumentation.
  • during operation you must count and record finished and rejected packaged items.
  • Ensure all area housekeeping tasks are completed and workplace organization is maintained.
  • Complete routine and preventative maintenance for area equipment.
  • Maintain inventory storage areas, including participation in cycle counts and/or wall-to-wall inventory counts as needed.
  • Other duties as needed to support business operations as directed by Management.

  • Minimum of 2 years manufacturing or related experience (examples of related experience are automotive or diesel mechanic, construction, heavy equipment operator or machining worker) or 2 years military service working with industrial equipment
