About this opportunity:

The Staff Rotating Equipment Engineer is the technical authority for rotating equipment across CTCHO, responsible for developing standards and best practices, improving equipment reliability, providing expert support for troubleshooting and failure investigations, supporting maintenance and asset management decisions, and influencing projects and business improvement opportunities through collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams. The role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, the ability to influence stakeholders, and a proven capability to mentor others and drive reliability improvements.

What you'll do:

  • Enterprise-wide rotating equipment subject matter expert for CTCHO, providing technical leadership and governance through standards, specifications, best practices, and engineering guidance.

  • Partners with Reliability Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Asset Management, Projects, Facilities Engineering, Supply Chain, and external equipment and service providers.

  • Supports multiple CTCHO operating sites from a Calgary base, with approximately 20% field travel.

  • Scope spans all rotating equipment systems across CTCHO and supports operations, maintenance, reliability, engineering, and project functions.

  • Accountable for improving equipment reliability and performance; identifying rotating equipment improvement opportunities; supporting condition monitoring, troubleshooting, and failure investigations; and developing long-range planning recommendations and cost forecasts for rotating equipment maintenance and replacement needs.

  • Key deliverables include rotating equipment standards and specifications, technical recommendations, root cause investigations, reliability improvement plans, business cases, and long-range maintenance planning inputs.

  • Exercises significant independent judgment as the technical authority for rotating equipment, influencing maintenance, operational, and project decisions through expertise rather than direct authority. Solves complex technical and reliability challenges requiring interpretation of industry standards, risk assessment, and balancing safety, reliability, and business objectives.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation recognized by APEGA or APEGS.

  • Minimum 12 years of experience supporting the maintenance, operation, repair, and engineering of rotating equipment within industrial or oil and gas environments.

  • Extensive experience with compressors, pumps, turbines, and gas engines, including equipment troubleshooting, optimization, reliability improvement, and failure investigations.

  • Strong knowledge of SAGD processes and rotating equipment applications, with expertise in relevant industry codes and standards including API, ASME, ABSA, and ISO.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop engineering standards, specifications, best practices, and technical guidance for rotating equipment systems.

  • Experience supporting maintenance planning, asset management, condition monitoring programs, and long-range equipment planning.
