Control Room Manager

About This Role

As part of Intersect Power’s Operations team, you’ll build and lead a critical component of the company’s operational execution capability. The Control Room Manager will establish and oversee the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) in Austin, Texas, creating a 24/7 control room organization responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of a growing utility-scale portfolio of solar, wind, battery storage, and gas generation assets.

This is a unique opportunity to build a control room operation from the ground up. You’ll recruit, train, and develop a team of NERC-certified operators while creating the systems, processes, and culture that support high-performance operations. Working closely with Field Operations, Technical Services, Reliability & Commissioning, Asset Management, Trading, and executive leadership, you’ll translate operational strategy into real-time execution that supports grid reliability, market compliance, and asset performance.

This role is based in Austin, Texas and supports a 24/7 operating environment.

Team Overview

This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our generation portfolio. The Operations organization serves as the company’s execution engine, connecting field operations, technical expertise, reliability programs, and market participation through coordinated operational excellence. Team members collaborate across disciplines to solve complex challenges, improve performance, and support the continued growth of Intersect’s fleet while delivering meaningful impact on the energy system.

What You'll Do

Build and Scale the Integrated Operations Center

  • Lead the development and stand-up of Intersect’s Integrated Operations Center, establishing the operational foundation for a new 24/7 control room organization.

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop Shift Supervisors, Operators, and operational specialists to support continuous operations.

  • Design and implement training programs, qualification pathways, operating procedures, and readiness assessments to prepare operators for NERC and ERCOT responsibilities.

  • Establish a culture of operational discipline, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the control room organization.

Lead Real-Time Fleet Operations

  • Provide day-to-day leadership of a 24/7 control room responsible for monitoring and operating utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, and gas generation assets.

  • Oversee the accurate execution of dispatch instructions, ancillary service deployments, curtailments, and other real-time operational directives.

  • Ensure continuous situational awareness across the fleet and coordinate rapid response to changing operating conditions.

  • Manage operational workflows supporting both directly controlled and remotely coordinated generation assets.

Drive Reliability, Compliance, and Grid Operations Excellence

  • Maintain compliance with applicable NERC reliability standards, ERCOT operating requirements, and regional market protocols.

  • Ensure operational procedures, documentation, and operator practices support regulatory readiness and audit requirements.

  • Maintain and enforce clear operational controls that preserve the separation between reliability-focused dispatch activities and commercial trading functions.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational performance and control room effectiveness.

Serve as Incident Commander During Critical Events

  • Lead operational response efforts during grid disturbances, forced outages, equipment failures, and security-related incidents.

  • Coordinate emergency communications and escalation procedures with internal stakeholders, off-takers, market operators, and leadership teams.

  • Direct operational decision-making during high-pressure events to support personnel safety, asset reliability, and grid stability.

  • Oversee event documentation and operational data collection to support post-event analysis and corrective actions.

Enable Cross-Functional Operational Execution

  • Partner closely with Field Operations teams to coordinate switching activities, maintenance execution, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and operational planning.

  • Collaborate with Reliability & Commissioning and Technical Services teams to execute maintenance strategies and address performance issues.

  • Ensure operational data is accurately captured and communicated to support warranty claims, asset performance evaluations, and commercial obligations.

  • Serve as a key operational partner across Asset Management, Trading, Engineering, and executive leadership teams.

What You'll Bring

The following qualifications and experiences will help you succeed in this role:

  • 8+ years of experience in utility-scale power generation, centralized control room operations, transmission operations, or related operational environments.

  • 5+ years of direct leadership experience managing control room personnel, rotating shift teams, or other continuous operations organizations.

  • Demonstrated success building, scaling, or significantly transforming operational teams, programs, or processes.

  • NERC Reliability Coordinator (RC), Generation Operator (GOP), or equivalent certification required.

  • ERCOT Operator Certification strongly preferred.

  • Experience supporting utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), gas generation assets, or comparable generation technologies.

  • Strong understanding of real-time grid operations, dispatch execution, reliability standards, and operational risk management.

  • Experience developing training programs, qualification matrices, standard operating procedures, and operational readiness processes.

  • Ability to lead effectively during emergency events and make sound decisions in dynamic, high-pressure situations.

  • Proven ability to collaborate across highly matrixed organizations and influence stakeholders across multiple functional disciplines.

  • Strong communication, coaching, and team development skills.

  • Commitment to operational excellence, accountability, safety, integrity, and continuous improvement.
