Plans, directs and controls the daily activities involved in the effective and efficient management of the Operating Room (OR) schedule, providing continuous and high quality service for the perioperative patient. Reports to the Director of Peri-Operative Services and works collaboratively with the Anesthesiologist in charge and surgical/anesthesia medical directors.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Constructs assignments in conjunction with the OR Service Group Managers based on patient, surgeon, and anesthesiology requirements.
2. Monitors on-time case starts for both elective and assigned urgent/emergent cases.
3. Maintains active communication among surgeons, anesthesiology staff, nursing staff, sterile processing staff, and other ancillary departments, ensuring schedule progression and issue resolution.
4. Works to maintain the daily elective schedule as planned by implementing accurate schedule plans and a pre-established means of addressing urgent and emergent schedule access.
5. Proactively reviews future schedules (next day, three days, and one week in advance) with the scheduler to address the need for scheduling adjustments and coordinates advanced schedule situations with respective OR Service Group Managers and Anesthesiologists.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
2. Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.
3. Current Certified Nurse in the Operating Room (CNOR) credentialing, or must obtain the certification within 12 months of date of hire.
4. Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
Experience/Skill:
Required:
1. Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an OR.
2. Has demonstrated leadership potential.
3. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills. Understands and demonstrates the concepts of conflict resolution. Able to direct others and negotiate for desired results.
4. Strong thorough knowledge of computer systems and software.
Preferred:
1. Membership and participation in professional nursing and community organizations.
