What is roofing insurance?

Roofing insurance is a specialized type of business insurance designed for roofing contractors and companies. It typically includes general liability coverage, workers’ compensation, and sometimes commercial auto insurance, all tailored to the unique risks faced in the roofing industry. This insurance protects roofing professionals from financial losses due to accidents, property damage, bodily injuries, and legal claims that may occur during roofing projects. Having roofing insurance is often required by law or by clients to ensure safety and accountability. It also helps roofing businesses maintain credibility and trust with customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in roofing insurance?

To succeed in roofing insurance, you need a solid understanding of property insurance policies, claims assessment, and roofing systems, often supported by experience in insurance or construction and relevant licensing. Familiarity with claims management software, estimating tools like Xactimate, and industry regulations is typically required. Strong negotiation, attention to detail, and customer service skills set top professionals apart in this field. These competencies ensure accurate claims processing, client satisfaction, and compliance with industry standards.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in roofing insurance, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in roofing insurance often encounter challenges such as accurately assessing roof damage, differentiating between storm-related issues and pre-existing wear, and managing claims fraud. Staying updated on roofing materials, building codes, and the latest inspection technologies is crucial for accurate evaluations. Collaborating closely with contractors, adjusters, and policyholders can help clarify claim details and ensure fair outcomes. Ongoing training and clear communication are key strategies for addressing these common hurdles.

Job description

Roofing Sales Manager – Insurance Restoration & Division Growth

Job Overview

Company: Quality Solar and Roofing

Position Title: Roofing Sales Manager

Compensation: 8% of Company-Generated Revenue | 15% of Self-Generated Revenue | Uncapped Commission

Location/Territory: Chicagoland Suburbs

Job/Employment Type: 1099 Independent Contractor | Full-Time Opportunity

Work Environment: Hybrid – Field & Office

Project Scope: Residential Roofing / Insurance Restoration

The Opportunity

Quality Solar and Roofing is expanding its roofing division throughout the Chicagoland suburbs and is seeking an experienced Roofing Sales Manager to take ownership of an existing pipeline of residential roofing opportunities.

Unlike many roofing sales positions that require you to build your entire pipeline through cold calling or door knocking, you'll step into 20+ warm, prequalified roofing opportunities each month generated through our established solar business. These homeowners have already contracted with Quality Solar and Roofing and have been identified as needing a roof replacement or significant roofing work before their solar installation can move forward.

This is a hands-on sales role first. You'll personally inspect roofs, meet with homeowners, close projects, and guide customers through the insurance restoration process when applicable. As the roofing division grows, you'll also have the opportunity to recruit, train, and lead additional roofing sales representatives and help build the systems behind a larger roofing operation.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Roofing Sales & Customer Management
  • Manage and work 20+ company-generated roofing opportunities per month
  • Contact homeowners quickly and consistently to schedule consultations and roof inspections
  • Perform residential roof inspections throughout the Chicagoland suburbs
  • Identify storm damage and determine when an insurance claim may be appropriate
  • Educate homeowners on roofing solutions, project options, and the insurance restoration process
  • Prepare and present retail roofing options when insurance is not applicable
  • Close roofing contracts and maintain consistent follow-up throughout the sales process
  • Follow customers from initial opportunity through project completion and final payment
  • Generate additional roofing opportunities through referrals, networking, canvassing, and other self-generated channels
  • Insurance Restoration
  • Assist homeowners with initiating and navigating applicable roofing insurance claims
  • Meet with insurance adjusters and communicate project scope
  • Review scopes, documentation, and project requirements throughout the claim process
  • Maintain consistent communication with homeowners while claims and roofing projects progress
  • Coordinate internally to help move approved projects efficiently into production
  • Sales Operations & Division Growth
  • Maintain accurate records of leads, appointments, inspections, claims, contracts, and project status
  • Coordinate closely with internal operations and production teams
  • Take ownership of the roofing sales pipeline and proactively address stalled opportunities
  • Help develop repeatable sales processes as the roofing division expands
  • Recruit, train, and eventually manage additional roofing sales representatives as volume supports growth
  • Help Quality Solar and Roofing build a scalable roofing sales operation alongside its established solar business

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in residential roofing sales
  • Strong experience with storm restoration and insurance roofing claims
  • Ability to perform residential roof inspections and identify potential storm damage
  • Experience working directly with homeowners and insurance adjusters
  • Working knowledge of insurance scopes, supplements, and supporting documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to close and consistently follow up on warm roofing leads
  • Experience managing a sales pipeline independently from initial contact through signed contract
  • Strong sales, communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
  • Self-directed mindset with the ability to take ownership without constant supervision
  • Reliable personal vehicle and ability to travel throughout the Chicagoland suburbs

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience with both insurance restoration and retail roofing sales
  • Existing roofing, insurance restoration, or home-improvement relationships within the Chicagoland market
  • Previous experience recruiting, training, or managing roofing sales representatives
  • Proven success generating roofing business through referrals, networking, or canvassing
  • Experience helping grow a roofing sales territory, team, or division

Compensation & Earning Opportunity

This is a commission-based 1099 independent contractor opportunity with uncapped earning potential.

  • Company-Generated Opportunities:
  • 8% of total roofing contract revenue
  • Self-Generated Opportunities:
  • 15% of total roofing contract revenue
  • Commissions are paid after Quality Solar and Roofing receives payment for the applicable project.
  • The company's solar operation currently generates 20+ roofing opportunities per month, providing an existing pipeline while allowing significantly higher commission potential for business you generate independently.
  • Company Vehicle Incentive
  • Candidates must initially provide their own reliable vehicle for appointments and travel throughout the Chicagoland suburbs.
  • After personally generating $500,000 in roofing revenue, the Roofing Sales Manager will earn use of a Quality Solar and Roofing branded company truck.

Schedule & Work Environment

This opportunity combines:

  • Field appointments and residential roof inspections
  • Homeowner consultations and insurance adjuster meetings
  • Office time for prospecting, follow-up, documentation, and pipeline management
  • Regional travel throughout the Chicagoland suburbs

As a 1099 independent contractor opportunity, the role is structured around performance and successful management of the roofing pipeline rather than a traditional fixed hourly schedule.

This opportunity is intended for an experienced roofing sales professional prepared to consistently manage the assigned lead volume and take ownership of results.

Why Join Quality Solar and Roofing?

Most roofing sales opportunities start with one challenge: finding someone to sell to.

Quality Solar and Roofing already has an established solar customer base generating homeowners who need roofing work completed before their solar installations can move forward. You'll step into that existing demand while still having the ability to dramatically increase your earning potential through self-generated business.

More importantly, this is an opportunity to help build the roofing division, not simply sell for it. The right person can grow from personally closing projects into recruiting and developing a sales team and becoming a key leader within Quality Solar and Roofing's expanding Chicagoland operation.

About Us

Quality Solar and Roofing is a growing solar and roofing contractor serving homeowners throughout Illinois and surrounding markets. Our team is focused on quality workmanship, responsive customer service, accountability, and building long-term relationships with the customers we serve.

As our roofing operation expands, we're looking for experienced professionals who want to take ownership, produce results, and help build a serious roofing business alongside an established solar operation.

Equal Employment Opportunity

Quality Solar and Roofing is committed to providing equal opportunity in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
