Job description

As the Product Manager, you will be the strategic architect of our repair and maintenance solutions. Your mission is to establish a portfolio of innovative, reliable, and cost-effective services that drive efficiency for our customers and internal operations alike. You will serve as the central hub for aligning product development with emerging industry technologies and the specific needs of the North American metals market.


This role is a high-impact leadership position focused on unifying the SMS group flat rolling service portfolio across North America. You will bridge the gap between innovative engineering and operational excellence, ensuring that our roll shops in Washington, PA, Mokena, IL, Gary, IN, and Osceola, AR operate as a cohesive, world-class network.


What you'll do

  • Maintains dialog with the SMS Service / roll Shops, SMS sales & customer to offer solutions for roll shops + WR + BUR chock & oil film bearing repairs / modernizations / spares / services
  • Regular customer visits to hot, cold, aluminum mills for in collaboration with our central sales responsible person
  • Supports customers operation issues by analysis of IBA data, dimensional inspection, etc. utilizing onsite resources to perform inspection, and gather data to provide a maintenance, modernization & or new solution for the operational issues
  • Identifies repairs to be developed / executed in the SMS workshops
  • Develops standard repairs ,modifications, modernization packages that can be scaled across multiple customers
  • Collaborate with OEM engineer for engineered repairs & enhancements
  • Creates market analysis for new and existing products & services
  • Responsible tracking of chock fleet program and oil film bearings
  • Collaborates with OPS team to create and implement digital inspection & ERP system
  • Creates data base of chocks & oil film bearings that can be altered to cover multiple customers equipment
  • Supports spare part group for chocks & oil film bearings
  • Collaborates with marketing to create & or update roll shop & chock & oil film bearing products service website & product brochures
  • In addition to above, support all customer and roll shop / workshop needs in regard to flat rolling where applicable
  • Other duties as assigned


What you’ll need

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
  • Experience: 5+ years of advanced knowledge of Flat Rolling Mill Roll Shops / steel production / mill maintenance / chock maintenance / roll grinding / operation
  • Technical Aptitude: Strong mechanical background with a deep understanding of flat rolling processes and roll shop operations
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and align multiple regional sites under a single strategic vision
  • Travel: Ability to travel frequently (up to 50%) to customer sites and North American workshop locations
