Rollback truck drivers are professional drivers who operate rollback tow trucks, which feature a flatbed that can be tilted and slid back to load and transport vehicles. They are primarily responsible for safely loading, securing, transporting, and unloading vehicles, often for roadside assistance, accident recovery, or vehicle relocation. Rollback truck drivers must have a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), good driving skills, and knowledge of safety protocols. Their work often requires quick problem-solving and customer service skills, as they frequently interact with people in stressful situations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a rollback truck driver?

Rollback Truck Drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating tight spaces or uneven terrain when loading or unloading vehicles. Weather conditions, especially rain, snow, or ice, can also make operations more difficult and increase safety risks. Additionally, drivers frequently interact with distressed customers or busy accident scenes, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Teamwork with dispatchers and other tow operators is essential to ensure timely and safe vehicle recovery.

How to become a rollback truck driver?

To become a rollback truck driver, you typically need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with the appropriate class and endorsements, along with experience driving large vehicles.
