We are currently seeking talented individuals for a Manufacturing Engineer position at the Rocket Center, WV location just outside of Cumberland MD. The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops, and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies.

This position will we be located on-site at our Rocket Center, WV location. No remote opportunities are available for this position.

The Manufacturing engineer develops and oversees manufacturing processes based on design requirements. The candidate will develop and maintain detailed work instructions for assigned products/processes, provide suggestions to improve productivity, compile and analyze processing data, investigate manufacturing problems and implement corrective actions, support proposal and development activities and provide day to day support to manufacturing personnel.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing processes, work instructions and production layouts required to fabricate the product.
  • Identify process improvements, capture feedback from Operations and incorporate changes into the manufacturing process.
  • Respond to design and specification changes by capturing details into the manufacturing process.
  • Respond to technical production issues associated with the product being fabricated.
  • Work with maintenance staff to troubleshoot and repair production specific equipment.
  • Generate specifications for procurement of new equipment.
  • Assist in establishing safety requirements for facilities and equipment.
  • Work in a multifunctional team to solve production related issues.
  • Work with Quality Engineering to quickly and efficiently resolve MRB items.
  • Establish Key Characteristics for manufacturing/processing and ensure systems are in place to monitor and control them.
  • Analyze processes and equipment for process capabilities and downtime.
  • Analyze yield and scrap rate data to aid in improving processes.
  • Determine root cause and corrective actions for discrepancies.
  • Generate and maintain Statistical Process Control programs for production products.
  • Work as part of an Integrated Product Team to support both internal and external customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 2 years of manufacturing experience or a relevant STEM Masters degree with 0 years of experience. .
  • Prior experience and knowledge of mechanical manufacturing and production processes.
  • Prior experience and Ability to interpret 2D drawings.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T as defined by ANSI/ASME Y14.5M-1994
  • U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a production machine shop environment.
  • Experience generating written work instructions for production operations.
  • Familiarity with preparation and analysis of statistical data to make processing decision.
  • Capable of writing and editing CNC programs for both turning and machining centers
  • Capable of CNC machine setup and optimization of process
  • Experience using CAD/CAM software, ACAD, MASTERCAM, Solid Works or NX
  • Experience with cutting tool selection, fixture design and metal and/ or composite material processing

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location.Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.

Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
